better midbass

well i'm redoing my doors. they were nice till i put the 3hp in the back then it just rattled the shit out of them, so i'm doing a 'full' fiberglass panel, instead of just the lower half. i'm happy w/ the sound, but i feel the midbass could be better. now i have 1 6.5 sealed @~.25-.45ft / door. i'm thinking about either keeping 1 6.5 or doing 2 5.25's ported ~70hz / door.

the question i guess is what would yield better results? 2 5.25" or 1 6.5" ported ~70hz? and i've got 108w @ 4ohm / door. so it'd be 1 4ohm or 2 8ohm...

Keep the 6 1/2" for the midbass. If you are building enclosures, be sure they are SOLID. Another thing is make sure the whole panel is dead. Line the inside of the enclosures with non hardening modeling clay. Something else you might want to try is an aperiodic vent. Either way, add some mass to everything. The less resonance and vibration you have, the better results.

so i'm gathering from the tutorial, that you ONLY want the enclosure barely bigger than the speaker? you couldn't use a decent size enclosure and just add a vent to the back?

also is this gonna re-inforce my 75-125hz range? i also read that you lose alittle in the lower end, which i don't wanna do.

Some use a small enclosure and some use a large one. The vent would need to be tuned but the Scan Speak vents worked out really well in my truck. I run my midbass down to 40hz. You will more than likely need a good eq when you do this as well because as noted, some frequencies will be boosted and some cut. For more information about AP vents and stuff like that you should go check out http://www.elitecaraudio.com and do a search. You should be able to find a good bit of info on it and there are alot of guys that use them over there that could probably answer alot of your questions.

so if i was to build a little "bucket" for my 6.5 like the tutorial for the 12's in the door. then gonna attach them to the door later. will i have to unseal the the door?
