best subwoofer for $500?

my current sub is having some issues, and all this talk about subs is making me consider just replacing it. what do you think would be the best sub to get for $500? the MTX models have caught my eye, or would you rather say to get 2 - $250 subs than one $500 sub? if so, which ones?

500 bucks can get you alot. Fi Btl, SSA Zcon, Sundown Z v2, Incriminator audio Death Penalty, im pretty sure that the DC LVL 4XL's are under 500 too. theirs alot to choose from

It's a 99 Honda Civic LX. Currently I have the amps screwed to the back seats and the battery on the side, I used to have a 12" trick box that took up almost all the space, so it has about enough room for a box like that.

my friend has that same car. i installed a kicker cvr 12 in their no problem. you could do a 15". its up to you man, what kind of power we talkin about here?

aren't cvr 12's cheap cost-wise? i want to spend big since i want some serious violent bass.. I have to check my amp's it's been a while and my brother installed the system but, there's two amps in there now, it's been powering this sub which I think is 1000 watts RMS- ample audio exonic 12x: (actually it could be 500 RMS)

yeah the cvr's are mad cheap. you can get 2 of em for 170$ off of craigslist right now. they hit pretty hard for the price too. are you looking at 2 12"'s, one 15", 2 10's... gotta tell us this suff

I'm going too google those tomorrow but, are those like the 'bad boy' subs? since my relatives own car audio shops and don't carry any of those and i've never heard of any of them, i guess since they might be really high end? I've only heard of models like, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Memphis, MTX, Ample Audio, of course pioneer/kenwood but, those aren't worth a mention.

I suppose if I got any of those you mentioned, I wonder how much sound deadning I would need to do, I installed Dynamat extreme on the trunk lid and quarter panels of my current system and I didn't notice any difference, I still hear rattling and my rear view mirror is **** useless lol due to all the shaking from the bass. I can't imagine what one of those subs you mentioned might do but, definitely want to find out lol.

yeah i'm not looking for anything cheap, i want the most that i can get for what i have to spend. i can get the cvr's for free if i wanted since my relatives have car audio shops and they carry kicker cvr's. but, i want some special ****. i don't care what the size is as long as it will fit in my trunk, i already have a 12" sub so I have a 12" enclosure, if I can get a sub without having to get a new box that's fine but, again I can get the box for free since they carry all sizes but, it would just be more convenient. well, actually if i could have some extra room for my beer cases i buy every week that wouldn't hurt. so i'd probably prefer to stick with 1 - 12" monster sub.
