Best sub/s at 400WRMS?

SSA and Skar both have reps on here that you can talk to about shipping to AUS...
sweet thanks, I wont rush into it, I'll be looking into reviews and once I'm set on a sub I'll go for it.

personally would you go for a dcon ssa 15 or a skar ivx 15? or which of those would you recommend? for loudness/sq

Looking online specs don't seem to be much different, really interested in a 15" and making my own ported box for it to spec.

edit: also the dcon seems to have higher spl, it's the one I'm leaning towards atm

Sealed : 2.5 Ft^3 (F3 around 40Hz)

Ported : 3.5 Ft^3 (F3 around 32Hz)

lol by looking at these for the 15s i think I may have to go sealed.

I haven't seen to much on the IVX yet since they are pretty new but have personally ran the VVX (600 rms beefier version) and loved it... I would say the DCON would like the sealed route more then the IVX if you decide to go that route but either way I'm sure you'll be happy... That is of course until you decide you want more power and louder lol...

awesome' date=' and yeah lol I know it's inevitable, I've only had this sub for a little over a month and I need to upgrade... even if it is bottom of the line.

and were you implying the IVX would be better than the dcon when ported?

it seems most people port the dcon.

and looking at specs I like the higher spl of the dcons

DCON 15" 92.2 1W/1m

IVX 15" 89.2 dB

DCON 12" 89.1 1W/1m

it seems the ivx 15 has only slightly higher spl than the dcon 12 (I'm not sure if those units conflict but thats what I found)

i think it's a pretty good indication of loudness, but still looking at reviews for sq

A guy I work with has 2 12" Dcon's and I can vouch for the SQ. They're very nice and get decently loud. Best sub out for the money right now imo... And OP don't get the Kicker Comps man. We've all been through a pair of these. They're good beginner subs but there's better out there for the money.

I'm running a Skar VVX 12 off 400 watts and it sounds really good. Getting another one sometime next week with another 400 watts of power

They like ported too... I wasnt saying you couldnt just that it would probably like sealed better then the IVX

sweet, yeah i definitely won't be, everything I read about these ssa subs is amazing, no one has anything bad to say about it, most likely going with a sealed box for it, ported on a 15" is just way too big.

Awesome, any chance you could show me where I could find the reps for ssa? as you mentioned earlier. (edit: no need, I found them)

cheers.

edit: I'm also curious about the expected life on one of these subs, I was told my kenwood would be lucky if it lasted more than 2 years, and i'd like a bit more life than that lol.

I run my subs at RMS, never over, with bass boost completely off.

why? Rms is a guide as long as its not dirty its okay
well first off im new to car audio and i don't want to break anything, also i'd like to get as much life out of it as i can, not to mention warranty is most likely void over RMS.

I think globalminds is trying to say is with SSA and other quality gear it's usually pretty safe to go over the recommended RMS as long as you have the electrical to do it, decent amps, and the knowledge. I know some people that throw 1000-1200 daily at Sundown SA's and Skar VVX's and they're only rated at 600 rms.
