Best sounding sub @500w RMS???

The reviews speak for themselves.
so all the glowing reviews from the DIY home theater guys are meaningless? sure....

judging by your comment, I'm guessing that you MUST have a fair bit of experience with the Tempest and SDX, as well as the new Mag?

reason I say that is because only an idiot would make a comment that one sub will sound better (than two others running the same motor topology) without a fair bit of experience using all subs in question. especially with sound being subjective. I sure as hell wouldn't be caught dead implying that, since I own only the SDX, and have only listened to a Tempest-X in a HT setting.

I'm curious to hear how they were all installed, and what you thought of them all...

and no, this post is in no way meant to question the quality of the new Mag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

DIYMA Reference 12. Works in a small box and cheap. Did I mention SEXY!!

With the amp that the OP has (the RF 1000d), that DIYMA 12 would have the cone turned to moosh within 3 seconds of anything over 700 watts. Not a good choice IMO.

PS: No, I'm not an idiot. Do a search for the DIYMA and high power applications and you'll find that said previous scenario has happened multiple times. IMO, the DIYMA is best suited for sub 600 watt applications.

I understand the diyma sub driver is really flat in response. Problem is it can't really take a beating and it doesn't get real loud.

Don't mind bose... he's one of those guys who reviews/comments you shouldn't trust one bit. He praised the mag v4 to be the best sq woofer before it was even released. I guess biased reviews do work.

He almost makes me not ever want to try the new mag just because I associate him w/ the mag... That, and my bad dislikes for the mag v3.

LOL, I never said you were an idiot. or meant it as any kind of shot at the new mag.

my comment was aimed directly at bose.

yeah, i'm not really on CA often enough to get to know which people are mindless bandwagoners, and which actually speak from experience. i know several from RoE, but the forum base here is much, much larger.

but I hear you on being driven away from a (probably very good) product. i hate hype.

guess it just bugs me to see people immediately claim that one sub will sound better than others when I'm pretty certain that he hasn't listened to all of them. i could see an argument for space savings, but he didn't go that route.

Haha, I know. Sorry for making it sound like you called me an idiot. I was only trying to backup that statement before people jumped on here and went "I haven't read anything about the DIYMA, you're FTL!"

Good thinking. Things that are not of ca.com needs to be explained.. you know, like diyma, time alignment, google, etc...

That is incorrect on both counts sir. The DIYMA can take some mild abuse. Not as much as most subs though, the motor is FAR too strong for the light cone it's attached to. As far as output, the DIYMA can get loud. Well, loud enough to overpower any front stage in a car that is even remotely concerned with SQ. If it's an SPL sub you're after then the DIYMA R12 is not for you. I have been using this sub for the past year + and love it.

I did just recently switch to the Mag v4 though and I am very happy with the switch. The Mag is every bit as accurate as the DIYMA with more authority down low. And is capable of more clean output.

I haven't heard the DIYcable subs, but I've heard lots of good things about them and I hope that I'll get a chance to hear them sometime soon.
