Best sounding sub @500w RMS???

The re se's are great subs, and they are beasts down low, but in my experience the high frequency drop-off gets ANNOYING without midbass

They live at 30-70hz, so you better have some midbass speakers.

IIRC bmw's are notoriously hard to get loud because of the

way they seal off the trunk.

Everyone keep in mind the op has 1000w at 1ohm and

$250 for sub(s). Maybe a single fi q15 d2 sealed in 2.5 cubes?

it gets a little expensive to experiment too much, hence reviews or opinions needed to save coin......
i was being a little extreme w/ the human thing.

reviews might help, but focusing on the 'people' giving the reviews will help more. too many bs reviews floating around by biased folks or just people that don't know shit.

I dont remember OP relating which type of box he would be using.
The Q, IXL, and GTI do all need more power - but if I'm reading correctly OP has a Fosgate 1000.1 to use :)

And the box does play a huge roll, a few of the woofers I chose needed more power but I was just coming off the top of my head with whatever came to mind at the time.
Just to clarify things a bit with regards to the IXL. These drivers do *not* require a ton of power to get moving and blend well with the rest of a system. They operate well with as little as 200 watts of power, just as they operate well with 1000 watts.

Even though they handle 1kw of applied power doesn't mean you *have* to apply that much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And I agree, the box design can make or break a decent driver.

Best,

Mark

Seams that the OP has long abandoned this thread but I appreciate all the input from you guys. It does help a lot.

But if all we did was look at the #'s, a lot of people wouldn't know what to choose. Even then, #'s aren't everything. We are human and we commonly consider other human's opinions and/or experiences to help make our own choices.

That right there sums up my position to a T.

Not being able to hear the different combinations out there I (as well as many other forum members) am forced to make a decision based on your opinions. That's how I went about setting up my front stage and am still tweaking that over and over although, it is getting better.

Now I'm looking into getting a sub that can add to my music and not drown it out.

Big power is great to some but I prefer more balance and hopefully a relatively stock car electrical system. Another concern of mine is that my sub will have to be in a fiberglass enclosure off to the side of the trunk. Not the ideal scenario, I know.

Anyway, thank you all for the input thus far. I am learning as I go along.

Ive run an 05 RE XXX off of 400 watts, something many people told me wouldn't work well at all. "It wont even get that thing moving" was the most common comment. Well it worked fine. It wouldn't have won any SPL contests with only 400 watts going to it, but it was loud enough to drown out my front stage. Oh yeah... and it was sealed.

Indeed. The OP has a wide variety of choices that will work for him if he doesn't let the power handling stigma get in the way. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Unless the Vas was 2 liters and ... well, was a completely different driver, whoever told you that was far from accurate.

But as to what Mark said, the IXL is a really good option here. If the OP did purchase that RF amp, it will definitely do more than 1000 watts and the IXL isn't going to mind the extra power. It's a lot better suited than the SPL driver(s) and it's also the least expensive.

sup guys. all the input is great. but i can't fit a 15" subwoofer in my trunk so i need to stick with a 12". It seems the IXL only comes in 15"...

Bump,

Please note that my reference to the IXL requiring less power to operate correctly bodes equally to other brands of drivers. Don't get hung up on the power handling so much - rather get input from others who share common experiences with you. Its tough trying to decide on purchasing something you have never heard. Just don't let power ratings rule your decision.

Oh, and to set the record straight, the IXL's come in 10" to 18" sizes.

Good luck!

Mark
