Best iPod ready Alpine HU?

Keep looking for the 9835, I think its the best Alpine thats been out since the '80's.
Well, here's what I'm thinking. If I get the cda-9857 for around $275 off ebay, and buy a separate processor that gives me a good EQ, time correction, etc., I would still come out at about the same price as the cda-9835 (if I can find one), and I would have full iPod integration. Whats yalls opinions? If I did this, whats good processor that I should look at?

What do yall think about me gettin a 9857, which will allow me to use the iPod full speed interface, and then get a separate processor, which will give me a good EQ, time correction, crossovers, etc.? I know the 9835 will give me the tuning ability I'm looking for and be a little cheaper, but I will be stuck with controlling the iPod through the iPod, which I absolutely don't want to do. I've done it for the past 7 months, and its old, real old.

Whats a good processor, besides the incredibly expensive h701? I saw the older Alpine processors, like the pxa-h510, and the era-g320 (japanese model?), but are there anymore? I wpuld need something that has the ai-net wouldn't I?

If I did the above method, and hook the processor up via ai-net to the 9857, how will I control the volume? Through the HU, or the processor? I was hoping to hide the processor screen out of sight, and only use it when I feel the need to tweak my system, and control the volume and iPod through the HU. Is that how it will work or will the volume be controlled through the processor?

Sorry for all the questions and the newbness, but I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before making a purchase. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Edit- nevermind, I just downloaded the h510 manual to read up on it, and it states "Adjusting the volume,

fader, balance and subwoofer

When using the Ai-NET connection, adjust the

volume/balance/fader control from the head

unit. (Not allowed from the PXA-H510.) Adjust

the subwoofer control from the PXA-H510."

So by this, I will be able to hids the face away, but still in a reachable place, and control the usual things, such as my iPod, cds, radio, volume, throught the HU.

Ok, I was looking on Cruthfield.com about the 9857, and it states that it can control the h701. The only reason I didnt consider the h701 before was because I would have to buy the c701 for it, pricey. But if the 9857 can control it, then my problems are solved. Do yall know for sure the 9857 can control the h701?

Alpines website says it can control "Sound Processors" in general, but not the h701 specifically.

And from what I've read, the h701 rapes the hell out of the h510.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

umm k so DONT get the 9857... mine just took a dump and its like 3 weeks old... u ever see an older alpine break?????? grrr pissed lol
what happened to it? just stop working? i plan on gettin it from crutchfield or best buy or circuit city just in case something does go wrong I can take it back.

Any info on the h701?

im guessing the internal amp just took a dump or something... i made a thread about it but no ones seemed to have any input:http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171435
I saw that thread. Just get a separate amp and bypass the internal amp. Then you'll have more power! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

yeah im gonna be doing that when i get my components, but still what if i wanna sell it someday or w/e... might as well take advantage of warranty

Ok, I called Alpine this morning, and the guy said it can't control the h701. Since it is an ai-net HU, the volume, fader, balance will be controlled with the HU, but I will still need to get the c701:furious: , which is another $150.

So, at this point, I'm stuck between the h701 and the h510. The h701 has alot more tunung capabilities than the h510 (doesn't have crossovers for front and rear speakers), but the price of the h701/c701 combo is twice that of the h510. Is it really worth it? I'm not looking to go active any time soon or compete in any competitions, but I still want time alignment, digital crossovers, and a decent EQ. Only if there was a middle ground...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif Yalls opinions please!
