Best components under $150?

I'm looking to get new components for my car....I was wondering which ones are best for around $150?

All I care about is SQ, but they have to be reasonably loud too of course. I listen to mainly hiphop and rock.

They will be powered by a Kicker ZX650.4, which puts out 120x4 @ 4 ohms.

I was thinking either Alpine Type R ($140) or maybe even Alpine type X ($199) if you guys could talk me into those

I'm open to suggestions, my sizes are 6.5" for doors and 1" for tweets.

thanks,

well SQ is all subjective, of course i love my focals, but they are the lowest line focal components you can buy i will tell you the same thing anyone else would and that is to go listen to speakers, find out what you like and go with that.. although hearing alpine and SQ in the same sentence is kind of funny

Type R comps are pretty bright on the tweeters.

Before you buy any comps, seal and deaden the crap out of your doors. Inside and out. Without that being done, its hard to get good sound.

You've never heard the type x line? I have the REFs and I hear that the PROs are the best bang your for buck SQ components out there.

But OP, what people would say are SQ components, and under $150 really arent the same thing. I do have the Type X REFs you are talking about and I think they sound great and they do get loud.

Will do glaticmonkey, but where can i get some cheapest? Do i need a special door kit, or does regular Dynamat have the same effect?

How will they take 120 RMS?

And how loud exactly are we talking a little louder than Type R's or just ear piercing like Rainbows?

EDIT: To AllenH427

My buddy has Rainbows... I wouldn't call them ear piercing by any means, they just sound really good. Type Rs are really freaking loud, but they don't sound near as good as the Type Xs. The Type Xs do get loud enough to make your ear drums tingle though. I fed them 90 RMS, now I'm feeding them 80 RMS and they actually get louder and sound better off my 80 RMS. I have the 5.25s and I think they are 65, the 6.5s are 75 I think, but if you are careful with the gain, I think they could handle it no problem.

Idk my buddys rainbows got super loud....

You think the Type X will sound good off a Kicker 650.4 with the gains down so it doesn't clip? Or should I get the Type R w/ that amp....?

I just dont want to blow them in a week, id rather run the type r is they can take the power better.

Hard telling, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the Type Rs will get louder than the Rainbows. You just have to weigh the pros and cons, having both and hearing rainbows over 100 times now I'll lay it out for you.

Type Rs

-Cheaper

-Louder

-Still sound pretty decent

Type Xs

-A little more pricey

-Still get loud, just not like the Type Rs

-Sound better than the Type Rs

In your case, with your amp, the Type Xs are more expensive and the tweeters are fairly wimpy and I wouldn't take the risk giving them that much power. Now the Type Rs are cheaper, they'll love that much power, they'll get really loud and still sound pretty decent. I'd roll with the Type Rs. Best thing to do is try to find a local shop with Type Xs and Type Rs, see which sound you like better, both have a little different sound but usually people would prefer the warm sound the Type Xs deliver.

It's only about an extra $50, I don't know, ask around for more input if people think they could handle that power.

For the loudness of the TypeXs, this is the 5.25s, which is smaller than the 6.5s.

I've seen that video very impressive, but I think the Type R will be better suited for my application, b/c of the high power I'm using.

Just go with the Type X. The Type Rs dont sound very good. Ive heard the DD comps a ton of times. They sound fucking horrible.

Go with Second Skin Damplifier Pro for deadener. I have a bulk pack in each door. Id try to get a bulk pack split between the two front doors with the midbass. Id go for at least a trunk pack though. It may seem like a lot of money, but you wont get a good full sound without it.
