Best Buy techs are hilarious

So I went to best buy today to see if we could pick up some speaker ends ($5 for 4, I passed it up), and we decided to test the subs they had, and the tech guy came to help us. It was quit comical"
Him: "120db will make your ear drums explode and you're ears will bleed, exceding 110db is very dangerous."

Me: "Don't bandpass boxes peak at a certain frequency, and sound bad at others?"

Him: "No, they perform very well at all fequencies when they're in a trunk, only in open air are they loudest at one frequency."

Him: "One more db is twice the pressure on your eardrums." (that might be true, I don't know, but it doesn't sound right.)

I'm not exaderating any of those quotes, that is exactly what he told me.

Yikes on the spelling and grammar!

Do you have some hard on against circuit city for some reason? They sell what appeals to their markets... you know how much money they put into market research on what they should and shouldn't sell?
And as far as you saying "well why don't people just buy shit online" or whatever the **** it was. Some people like to talk to someone that knows something about the products, actually use/hear the products, buy from an authorized dealer, and sometimes even buy extended warranties. Not everyone is a cheap ***.

And as far as circuit city doing custom work, that's not their main goal. Some shops do it and anyone that works for cc can vouche for that, there is numerous pictures on our tech site.
your a real class act aren't you? anybody dumb enough to buy a product without listening to it first is a dumbazz, tis why you drive around to local sound shops with a couple of subs in mind, then look for the best deal, and wheather they are authorized or not, any place that likes customers offers some sort of replacement warranty...even if the factory don't warrant it.

as for being a cheap ***, no how bout a better word, how bout not being a sucker that a salesman will walk alll over?

profitable in what way? honestly if i ever did go to a shop, i'd pick the one that does custom installs and refuses to use prefab box's over the one thats just the opposite....but then again you'll never see me in a install shop, i do all my own electrical work.

custom work isn't very profitable. i manage a mid/high car audio shop and i would much rather slam a couple deck + 4 or amp subs then have my highest paid installer stuck on a car for a week. the end result is great, and it makes the store look good but not profitable.

Some of you guys are retarded.

I work at a CC...and we make a good amount of money every week doing 'simple' installs...MAYBE once a month I'll actually do something considered 'custom'...but that's not what 99% of the people come in for...we appeal to a certain market, and we do it well.

Not everyone wants a fancy CD player that can make them coffee...I noticed someone said something about us carrying Sony...Sony CD players are probably our top seller...why? Well, we've had absolutely no problems with the new units, and for $99, you can get a CD player with a front Aux-in so it takes you all of 2 seconds to hook up an MP3 player.

Oh, and as far as us carrying shitty screens...we currently have on display:

The Pioneer 5700/N3/D2/Z1/ and 6800DVD (6-disc in dash double din)

The Panasonic 7003u and 6503u

And the Eclipse AVN7000/AVN5435

All of which are excellent units if you ask me.

Bingo...you can get a few hundred dollars of pure profit from install on a radio, 4 and an amp/sub and it takes what...2-3 hours to install?

tue but usually most cutom shops are owned by an installer who does most of the work. but like cc or bb yeah it wouldn't be very profitable.

Plus, you have to remember that big box places like CC and BB will carry a lifetime warranty labor...in my area alone, I've had 5 shops close in the last year...would **** if someone had an install done by one of those shops and something just blew up today wouldn't it?

congrats u just called prolly a very large percentage of this forum a "dumbazz" LOTS of people (including myself) purchace products that they might not have heard... i got my 2 rlps in full confidence of being satisfied.... and i had never actually heard one when i got them.... same with my fronts never heard them before i got them still completly satisfid so YOU sir are an idiot for assuming that people are "dumbazzes" for buying products that they have never tried.

What good is listening to a pair of speakers in a sound room? They won't sound anything like they do in your car...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you do enough research and read enough reviews, you can make very nice decisions when it comes to buying car audio without hearing it...

i think its funny... everyone comes to us to have their installs fixed.... and theyre not our installs... they're BB's, sound advice's and a couple local audio shops.

I love when that happens...half the time people think I'll just look at it for free, too.

ok, if the owner is working on a car, who is running his sales floor and taking care of all the things an owner needs to do. the end result is that he has to pay someone good money to run his shop. owners need to run their shop from outside the business.

OK, so after 8 pages I wanna chime in here. A couple point, first off any install shop who doesnt require the guys to use their own tools is nuts. In the real world if the shop supplies the tools then they get abused, if the guys supply them they will look after them. Next, let me point out that Im Canadian so we dont have CC and Best Buy isnt a big force up here, but the head unit debate from earlier I have issues will. The higher end Panasonics cant TOUCH the Eclipse decks for either build quality or sound quality, at ANY level. Read a couple bench test reports and it should be proven to you real quick. Im not saying that they Panasonic stuff sucks, cause it doesnt, but it cant hold a candle to Eclipse. Pioneer is closer and has its place in the market, I like it alot actually but its still just a chaufer for Eclipse. 3rd, to the gentleman that talked about going around from store to store to hear the gear than buy it online. You Prick. Do you relise that alot of salesman work on commision and that by you going into their stores and wasting their time to get demo's done and then leaving knowing full well you had no intentions of ever buying off them, your taking money out of their pocket becuase they could have been helping REAL customers instead of talking to bottom ******* leaches. I appreciate wanting to save money, but as far as Im concerned the savings should come with a little risk and thats buying without trying. Do your research and order your gear and hope for the best. If you want to hear it and play with it first as well as get a local warrenty than thats something you should pay extra for. Just my .02 on that. As for CC and BB being hacks and not knowing anything and what not. Im not going to disagree but I wont agree either. I know Big Box operations in Canada and basicly they go like this. Kid comes in and they want a job. Store decides to hire them and puts them through a SALES training process that includes little to no product training but a ton of sales training. They are then thrown on the floor to fend for themselves, alot of times in audio because in the grand scheme of things its the smallest average sale in the entire store so if the F**kup a sale the store wont loose much. The installers are very much a hit and miss thing. Some stores are great, some are better off thrown back in the gutter and thats what makes it hard to decide to get the job done there or not. Last point I will touch on, the hacking off the harness thing. If I do not have a harness instock when I go to do the job I will tell the customer then leave it up to them. If they want me to remove the harness then I will and make sure when I cut it off there is enough slack on the plug to reattach it later on. I hate doing it but in the end its the customers call. I wont however just attach on to the wires and leave the plug as it then leaves the ends on the wires open and over time they can corrode. You can tape it up and what not but in the end it looks better to just cut it off and reattach it to the back of the deck. Once again I hate doing it but some guys who are driving their 1992 Ford Tempo just dont care, they want their deck put in now.

I would beat the ever-loving shit out of some dumb**** who cut the entire ****ing plug off of my car's factory harness. I mean really. I'd find them and beat them senseless. God ****.

I did on my first install because that was how I was taught. I did a friend's and it messed up. We went to a local shop and he showed me. He didn't blast me because I wasn't arrogant, only passing on what I was taught. Now I always use adapters, even if I have to postpone an install for it. Maturity and learning FTW
