Best Buy techs are hilarious

who needs hearing any way.. you'd feel a couple 12's pounding behind yah still //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
This is why the deaf still shop for subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

True story, when I owned car audio stores a deaf guy bought two 12's and a 560 watt amp from me and had me do the install. He obviously did not care what brand, just wanted to feel the boom so I sold him a couple cheapies.

To achieve the same destruction of your ear drum at 40hz you will need an additional 34.6dB (154.6dB) on top of that 120dB at 1khz. At 20hz its an additional 50.5dB (170.5dB). At 10hz its an additional 70.4dB (190.4dB!!!).

the amount of energy is doubled for each additional dB, so 110dB requires twice as much energy as 109dB but our ears cannot perceive the difference.
I wonder where you are getting this destruction of your ear drum information at that sounds like a fun study to read //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

http://www.qwyatt.com/whatisnoise.html

Also every time you 2x the energy input to the system you get a 10*log(2) increase in dB which is actually 3.01029996 dB

Also if you want to calculate what would happen to your maximum output levels going from 750 watts to 900 watts you can simply go:

10*log(900/750) = 0.79181246 dB

Hopefully this will help clear the confusion...

Also the whole 10dB being 2x the loudness thing... total rubbish...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour

Oh and this is where the 2x loudness = 10dB thing comes from:

Sone... talk about a weak unit...

If you really want to learn what’s going on read those ^^

I wonder if they actually prefer hiring people that know nothing and "training" them... It would prove to be more uniform from store to store that way lol... I would be kind of interested to see the BB/CC training process it might be good for a few laughs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've always had better luck with CC at least when it comes to defective equipment... Over 1/2 the items I've ever bought from BB went defective fairly quickly (bad luck? or B stock?)...

That's not entirely true. The limits of human hearing as 20-20000 is only applicable at a given decibel range. Basically if you increase the volume loud enough, you'll hear well below 20hz. Granted everyday noises never get that loud, which is why we have the 20-20000 cap. However if you generate 140db's at 15hz, it would undoubtedly be audible.
No, you wouldn't be able to hear it as your ear is not physically capable of perceiving those sounds. You would "hear" it, but you would not hear any information whatsoever in it. It would just be a sine wave which would be more visceral than audible. People like the low lows (in the 20s) because they cannot truly "hear" the bass, but it is visceral and can be felt. Quite a difference.

Well BB and CC techs i believe only get into the whole car audio thing strictly because its "cool" to have subs or be involved in them. I find it funny that where i live we dont have a BB within like 10 miles so people come to me instead of drive out there. And when the few straglers make it out to BB they come back telling me what they got and how much they spent and i just sit and laugh at the horrible job they got and how much money they got screwed out of.

BB,CC CT,T all are overpriced...people need to learn to shop direct or buy online
Maybe some people like buying from a b&m? Maybe they like using and comparing equipment before buying it and actualy have a warrenty. You cant buy 99% of the brands out there direct. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

CC = Very overpriced

Yeah , but every once in a while you can catch an open box item for a really good price. That's the only reason I ever even bother going in there in the first place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you know what the sad part is, all those bb and cc install tech's really are certified, but they can only work with the tools they give them....actually i take that back, they have to buy their own tools....LOL least the ones at the local cc here do, i couldn't stop laughin after i heard that one from a friend.

as for doing it because they think its the "cool" thing to do....they actually get paid pretty good for the f up jobs they do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Minus the table saw in the shop . We had to use our own tools at the shop I worked at as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

heh, i don't think bb or cc actually makes custom enclosures, least not the ones around here, they can only sell you what they have in stock or what they can order...LOL give me 2 days and i'll have a custom enclosure built, dry, and ready to throw in.

We'll make it the right volume and tuning... that's first priority! Of course we make it fit the car nicely. We may not be west coast customs, but we make it look nice. My manager isn't a huge fan of custom installs, though. It's more profitable to just slap a prefab in a trunk.
profitable in what way? honestly if i ever did go to a shop, i'd pick the one that does custom installs and refuses to use prefab box's over the one thats just the opposite....but then again you'll never see me in a install shop, i do all my own electrical work.
