When you return electronics like car cd players, cameras, ,or mp3 players to best buy unopened, do they need to have the same serial number as the one that you purchased? Or do they not even check that?

so you stole a bunch of boxes from best buy and are going to replace the item with a cheaper one off the internet or something then go return them and make monies
everytime i've returned, they didn't look at the serial on the device.. they look inside, make sure it's there.. asked for a reason and scanned the box.

They will open the box and check the serial number...if that unit is not deffective they will sell it as an open box item at a discounted rate.....so any switcheroo's more than likely will not work...
This reminds me of the "walmart trick" ... when we first started modding xboxes if you messed up, put it back in the box and take it to walmart and they'll give you a new one. doesn't work anymore =/
I'm asking about unopened packages. I'm asking if they would open a brand new box just to check the serial number on a product. But then a lot of products have the serial number on the box
Most of the time they check to see that the CD player is the same model, and then they'll ask you what is wrong with it. They'll have it fixed/sent to manufacturer and get reports from there.
