Best Buy Humor :)

Hahah..I found this thread pretty funny...I just got a job at my local best buy in Frederick, MD (installing stereos and shiz) the only thing I've never done are alarms and such. I've fixed around 5-6 cars of my friends that have gone to this BB and their stuff was pretty messed up..hopefully I can bring some goodness of installation. I was there for my interview in the install bay and the store was just opening, one of the employees had his car backed up inside with his trunk opened and it sounded like complete trashhh..meh

Yeah, most BB and CC sells products to appeal to typical consumers, not many come in with knowledge gained and shared on forums and through much experience. Most consumers sometimes can't differentiate between SQ and SPL, and on which one they want. Yeah, most of their products are overpriced and not top of the line brands, but regardless, they generate sales. There were some sale on Black Friday about two Dual 12's in some box with an amp for $99, sold out quickly of course.

Those that actually understand car audio usually don't purchase speakers or subs from BB or CC, they tend to buy online or at more dedicated retailers. BB and CC both usually target the masses, which is usually an uninformed consumer.

Same applies to the other departments, ie computers. Many go to BB to purchase a computer for home use, just for their basic email and such. The gaming enthusiasts and more extreme users usually have a decent knowledge of computer hardware and know certain prices. Those certain enthusiast usually order online or purchase at more specialized stores (i.e. Frys or MicroCenter). Those that purchase computers at BB is greeted with employees that knows enough to be able to project a sale to the typical consumer.

you are suppost to get study time to learn things via mecp (packets) make sure you get the time to do it and make sure the people up front know what you can/cant do. when i worked at a best buy the sales people would try and make same day installs with remote starts quote them a price (while missing half the needed items) and tell them it could be done in an hour while there were 1 or 2 of us working on 4 decks and an amp install.............i am also old fashioned and dont like the "free install" as more than likely they would need 50 bucks or more in parts then the "sometimes totally free" labor about 2/3's of the cars we did had 1 or 2 $15 extra labors...i feel that they should talk to an installer before they ever talk to sales just to be 100% up front to start with.

I sir would kill myself if our product specialists were that retarded, We dont have mecp packets but who needs them anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif i say product specialists should be installers its a good idea on knowing the basics of whats needed and times to accomplish many tasks already at hand.

i'll have to say the absolute funniest thing that happened at best buy was when me and 2 of my buddies went to mess around. One of them is a really good actor, so we send him over the look at the speakers and subs. The whole time, I was recording him on my phone. He would walk up and down the wall of speakers, analyzing them. This went of for about 5 minutes. Then he walked over the the subs and stood there and stared at a sub that was turned on. The best buy guy walks over thinking he was getting ready to make a sale and asks my friend "What are u looking for?" My friend did nothing, kept staring. The bb guy asks "Can I help you with anything?" My friend stood there for a second and the turned and saw the guy and jumped back, with a startled look on his face. The bb guy smiles and says "Didnt mean to scare you, just wondering if you needed any help?" My buddy pointed to his ear and said "I'm def." The look on the bb guys face was priceless.

it might have changed we used to have to get so far in mecp...all in all ended up just being a reason to fire people. the 2 stores i worked at took $$$$$ too serious from our department. we wouldnt be a make it or break it department for the store but we could have been what keeps people coming back. our stores car audio was lucky to do 5% total sales of the store as we normally averaged 60-100k a day as a store and 600-800 k on black friday. if you all do your job well the first time that department makes money and most of all MAKES customers return customers. if its all slam bam installs you will never sell any higher end gear (i actually sold q forms and prefab q logic boxxes) and when done on a personable level could hit 60%-70%(i had days where i personaly made our department top 5 in the company) on psp's when not rushed and i wouldnt have to exagerate the plan. with parts , labor the sale and the psp you woud make as much $$ as you would if you made twice as many bad sales and did a slam bam no explanation job. what was realy bad though is when we were slammed and still had to go out on the floor and help a sale. when the people up front ask 2 or 3 installers how long stuff will take without the installers talking it gets rather crazy. a service imho isnt like fast food and it shouldnt be treated or thought of as such EVEN if it is only a deck that car you are working on is more than likely someones baby reguardless if anyone thinks its a pos or not... the way they guage things isnt on a per job/time basis its a per dollar/time basis. it can get very twisted
