Best 8s for SPL

i gotta say sealed with big amp can get real loud, maybe not win any comps for spl but plenty loud for daily. get any of the mentiond 8s and make sure you have WELL OVER their reccomended power handling requirements. 300 rms sub will get loud on a 500 rms amp. as long as your not running test tones for long periods of time you shouldnt damage anything.

Ok, I know 8s and spl don't exactly go hand in hand and that if I really want higher db lvls I really ought to go with 12s or 15s etc, but in my car the only subs I can hide are 8s.
That being said, what are the best 8 inch subs for SPL? I'll be running a pair of them in a sealed box (again, I know sealed also isn't the best for spl) that will be about .6 cu ft (per driver) with the driver in them, and can give them about 350w per driver.
spl and sealed dpnt go 2gether imho

but if u want to hide some 8's and have decent output

rl-i 8's or tc1k 8's

around 500 watts fpr each 8

80

alright, here are some pics of the box while it was being made. Each sub is in its own sealed compartment, each of which is ~.6 cu ft with an rl-i8 in it. Could this thing be modified into a ported box, and would the internal volume be big enough for a ported box?

Right now I've got a PG x600.1 sending about 350w to each sub. Maybe I should get an amp that can give them more power? When choosing an amp I just figured that a bit over the rated power (300w rms) would be good since they are sealed, I didn't think giving it 200w more would be ok. Does anyone have any experience running 500w to an rl-i8 in a sealed box?

Another question, I set my headunit at 25/35 and used a -3db test tone to set the gain for the sub amp, and I have to turn the volume up to ~22/23 to get much bass out of them. Does this mean I should use a -6 or -10db test tone to set the gains and therefore have more bass at a lower volume level? Even at 22 or 23 it still doesn't quite give the bass I expected (sounds good, just not what I expected at near max volume) - I mean, in my friend's systems with a single 10 or single 12, you can really feel the bass slam in your chest, but in mine, you can hear the bass nicely but it doesn't have the same feel. Keep in mind I am kind of a car audio newb...

i share 2500wrms on my rl-ps (rated 500 wrms each) they love it. i usually just bump around a bit and enjoy but every now and again i wail on em and they come alive. i set my gains by ear, put hu on about half volume and adjust amp/s to a solid level.? if your hu needs to be set high to get bass i cant see it being good.i also had a pair of sounspinter 8s running of the 2500rms, they didnt even break a sweat.

One thing I just remembered is my electrical system....the stock porsche alternator is not made to produce huge amperage, and it is impossible to fit a physically larger alternator in its place so having it rewound is the only option, and after contacting several alt makers and getting no response it seems like they aren't interested in my project.

What this means is that I don't think I can run alot more power to these subs without hurting the electrical system...

There was one guy on the DD forum hitting at 142 on term lab with a single DD 1008 with only 3-400RMS...in crazy 8's...A lot of people are posting that the 1008's can handle between 8-900rms of power...I have personally seen 4 1008's doing a 150+ on term lab.... check out DD's forums under subs...you will find post about their 8's http://www.ddaudio.com //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
