Best 8" sub that hits LOW?

Treo does not list an 8" version of the SSi as being available on their website. They list that they do not make any 8s at all.
Thats weird, I just checked and your are correct, however they did indeed just have them on there not even a month ago. Were listed as only taking 500w rms versus the 750 standard on the SSi's and I think they recommended maybe 0.35 ft^3 for sealed and 0.75 ft^3 @ 28.6Hz ported.

Here they haven't updated the Specs page, it still has listings of specs for the SSi8. Just click on their specs pdf there and it has all the specs for the 8's Main thing I like about them is the relatively shallow mounting depth, was strongly considering them for my truck.

I also find it extremely hard to believe the 8" version would/does have 26mm xmax. No 8" sub on the planet has that much, that Im aware of. What's the 8W7 have again? Its not even that much, and it has alot for an 8.

Yea I would venture to guess the 26mm of Xmax listed for the SSi is a two way measurement, giving you 13mm for one way, much more believable number. I can't find anything on their website that states what it is though.

Not sure if these would hit the lows like you are wanting but I would venture to bet they would be pretty sweet in your car and not too bad of a price either, http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2643

Listed as having a 1 way linear Xmax of 15mm and a mounting depth of 4.75"

I haven't seen any DUMAX, Klippel measurement either but how a 26mm Xmax on a 8" sub that hard to believe?

I think the TC Sounds 8" sub has 24mm Xmax.

However as Nick was saying, the motor topology on the Treo SSi subs might not allow 26mm Xmax. Just a guess

A measured 25/26mm Xmax 8" woofer would have a basket with similar mechanical clearances of the 8W7. You can get by with making the motor shorter with a linear BL optimized motor, but traditional methods would yield a motor with similar depth as the 8W7. The JL 8W7 is a fantastic driver (albeit, it's a $300 8" woofer) and it throws a TON for a little 8.

The Treo doing 1.3x more linear travel (and even MORE mechanical travel) than the 8W7 with much less clearance isn't going to happen. There are a few frames out there that will support +20mm of one-way linear travel for an 8" frame (keep in mind that mechanical travel is even more), but they all require custom tooled surrounds at the least (and some require custom spiders). Flat-out, with the 4-spoke Venezuela and a standard 2" voice coil, that driver will not do anywhere near 26mm one-way linear.

ya know, i was actually looking at those. price isn't too bad either. i can definitely fit the large box Image Dynamics recommends behind each seat. 0.9ft^3 tuned to 30hz. 300rms. not bad... not bad.

any other suggestions?

when they play down to 25hz with no problems i'd say they are "low"
At what kind of attenuation?

You're almost a full octave below tuning at that point...mechanically the sub is not going to be able to take that much down there.

Sure, it'll play and make noise, but do a side-by-side comparison with a sealed enclosure and it wouldn't even be fair.

^any attenuation at/around around 25hz isn't noticeable unless u listen to test tones all day. these subs have no problems making i trough a lil john album w/o bottoming out or loosing any volume with the lower notes.
