Best 8" sub that hits LOW?

besides the JL 8W7 (which costs $270+), what other options are good for 8 inch? it needs to hit low and have good SPL. I'm in the market for two of them...

my good bud which also has a mr2 turbo like you bought the tc1000 8's when they were on sale for $120 shipped...that was a steal, basically a rli8 but a bunch of dough less...

I've never heard them, but the Diamond D3 8" looks pretty beefy. They aren't too expensive either.

Treo does not list an 8" version of the SSi as being available on their website. They list that they do not make any 8s at all.

I've never heard them, but the Diamond D3 8" looks pretty beefy. They aren't too expensive either.

Ive got one in my vette. They're nice subs but they dont get too loud, even in the right enclosure.

I would like to see some DUMAX, Klippel, or FEA measurements to support that. 26mm of one-way linear travel out of the 4-spoke Venezuela basket in an 8" version is lofty to say the least. I'll have to measure our 12" 4-spoke we have laying around to measure the inward clearance on it, but from memory it's 1.3 inches inward. Even if the 8" version does have 25/26mm of inward clearance and the motor had 26mm of linear one-way travel, the moving assembly would rip itself to shreds when it approaches Xmax due to having too much linear throw and not enough mechanical clearance. That, and with typical overhung motor topology you're talking a voice coil near/over 2" long.

But I do need to throw out that Xmax isn't the only thing to consider when looking for low-end performance. Then again, if you want an 8" that plays 20 Hz at 140 dB, you're not going to find it. If you're looking for an 8" that doesn't suffer with the lows in music, those are all over the place. And on the note of not taking up a lot of space - how about looking for a shallow mount 10" or 12" driver that takes ~.75 cubes sealed? That will give you more behind-the-seat room than a deep 8" woofer. Just a thought.

Surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet but assasins are great lil drivers. Ive heard 2 ported an couldnt believe the output and the ability to get low from 2 8s. Soon ill be puttin 2 of them on the rear deck of my Dads benz. Go over to SSa an pick some up.
