Best 70's And 80's Rock In Your Opinion

For testing purposes, Black Sabbath works well as a poor system will muddle everything up with all the bass. A good system will showcase all the musical details.

I have 8 Pioneer JD-1212S magazines loaded up for a total of 96 CD's. Rock from the 70's and 80's dominates the selection. Toss in some disco, club, soundtrack, classical and pyschedelic to add some spice. My favorite live recording to listen to is "Steppenwolf Live", recorded from concerts in 1969 and 1970. When "Monster" comes up, it's the most stirring song of all and it's as relevant today as it was back then. Styx's "Equinox" is a clean CD recording for a studio album, featuring Top 40 and good rock, especially the last two songs "Prelude 12" and "Suite Madame Blue", which is somewhat close in style to songpairing as Boston used in "Foreplay"/"Long Time". If you don't have your volume maxed out by the end of the song you aren't enjoying rock for all it's worth.

If you want dramatic soundtrack, try the one for "Conan The Barbarian". For alternative/club, KLF's "The White Room" offers a variety of rap, rock and easy listening all on the same album that will showcase a good audio system quite nicely.

You'll never go wrong with Alice Cooper though...LOL! "Welcome To My Nightmare" has lavish sounds, rocking sounds, soft sounds and a great quality to the recording that makes it a pleasure to listen to. Cranked up so the soft passages are clear and somewhat loud makes the transition to the more rocking parts even more tremendous.

For prog rock, Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" will give plenty of good enjoyment for those who like the old analog synths used back in the day along with a strong variety of musical styles. Once "Karn Evil 9" kicks in, it's Katy Bar The Door though!

80's pop/Top 40/club material usually has good sound quality so it's easy to listen to without a lot of fussing with the EQ. I'd say this music is the most forgiving for any flaws in a sound system.

Jethro Tull: Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New day (one of their best), A Christmas Song, To Cry you a Song, Thick as a Brick (awesome album)

Pink Floyd: Us and Them, Keep Talking (early 90s actually), On the Turning Away, Wish you were here

Led Zeppelin: Ten years Gone (by far my favorite Zeppelin song), Battle of Evermore, Kashmir, Black Dog

Rush: 2112, Tom Sawyer, Resist, Spirit of Radio

Uriah Heep: Sunrise, Magician's Birthday

REO Speedwagon: Time for me to Fly

Guns n Roses: November Rain (early 90s but amazing)

Those are some of my favorites.

Sorry but Juke Box Hero just plain sucks!! Very lame song
ummm yea, I'm gonna have to go ahead of sort of disagree with ya there. Juke Box Hero really isn't all that lame and it has been known to work when making a 70's/80's mix

Haha, Final Countdown and Africa are two of my guilty pleasure songs! Africa is a great sounding song on a nice system too.

Alan Parson's Project is another group that had some great stuff in the 70s-80s. Eye in the Sky is by far my favorite.

Oh, and I completely forgot about Boston! Peace of Mind, Living for You, and Amanda are some of my favorites from them.

Its definitely good stuff. Cool the Engines and Don't Look Back are probably my 2 favorite Boston songs.

Few more for the list, Hall & Oats, Men without Hats, and Men at Work. Ugh I know there has to be more but I just can't think of any more that haven't already been said.

Guess the death metal and such will be going on the back burner for a while, gonna be all 80's on my playlist for the next couple of weeks lol.

The Doors, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, Janis Joplin, The Guess Who, BTO, Nazareth, Little Feat, The Outlaws, J. Geils Band, Steely Dan, Moody Blues, Deep Purple, REO Speedwagon, Rainbow,
