best 6.5 component speaker

The other day I gave my daughter a ride to her friends house, and did not realize that the sub was not playing. I had forgotten that the remote gain module on my amp was turned all the way down (cuts off the subs volume). I was playing around with my new components the day before. I did not even realize it either until I turned up the volume some more. I just thought the sub volume was a little on the low side. I don't like having the music up loud with my kids in the car.

I am not saying that a sub is not needed to get nice full sound, but just because you don't want a sub does not mean that you wont benefit from having a good set of components.

I hear nothing but great things about the Polk SR6500 Components. Haven't dealt with them specifically but I have the the Polk MOMO speakers and the Polk SR subs and all are great. I don't know if you can find the SR6500s for $400 or less, but they are still worth a look into in my opinion.
