I'm looking for some help picking out a 12" subwoofer. This is what I'm looking for:
Power handling between 500-600 watts-RMS
Two ohm equivalent
Very flat frequency response between 25-50Hz
Optimum sealed enclosure size less than or equal to 1.25 cubic feet
High reliability
High sound quality
Cost under $200 with shipping
These three subwoofers are the ones I'm most interested in:
Eclipse-SW6210 12mm-Xmax 20.5Hz-Fs 0.44-Qts 6.40625-Depth 1-ft3 $129.99
HiFonics-ZX12D4 15mm-Xmax 25Hz-Fs 0.411-Qts 6.22-Depth 1-ft3 $74.99
Soundstream-RW12 14mm-Xmax 24.75Hz-Fs 0.467-Qts 6.5-Depth 1-ft3 $133.45
I'm also considering these subwoofers, but am not as interested:
Alpine-SWR1242D 18.2mm-Xmax 29Hz-Fs 0.47-Qts 7.7-Depth 0.85-ft3 $126.95
Eclipse-SW7200 17.78mm-Xmax 28Hz-Fs 0.52-Qts 6.5625-Depth 1-ft3 $170.54
JL Audio-12W3v32 13mm-Xmax 27.97Hz-Fs 0.5-Qts 6.65-Depth 1.25-ft3 $157.5
Kicker-S12C4 16mm-Xmax 26Hz-Fs 0.464-Qts 6.3125-Depth 0.88-ft3 $162.95
Phoenix Gold-RSdC124 14.8mm-Xmax 26.4Hz-Fs 0.491-Qts 6.24-Depth 1.17-ft3 $109.95
Planet Audio-BB12D 14.3002mm-Xmax 29Hz-Fs 0.532-Qts 7.875-Depth 1-ft3 $135.95
Rockford Fosgate-P3D412 13.4mm-Xmax 27Hz-Fs 0.52-Qts 6.75-Depth 1-ft3 $115
Soundstream-RBW12 10.5mm-Xmax 29.93Hz-Fs 0.751-Qts 6.5-Depth 1.25-ft3 $138.99
These subwoofers also fit some of the specs I'm looking for, but not others, so I'm not very interested in them:
Cerwin Vega-VMax124 13.8mm-Xmax 32.676Hz-Fs 0.567-Qts 6.77-Depth 1-ft3
Clarion-PXW1252 12mm-Xmax 34.27Hz-Fs 0.57-Qts 6.125-Depth 1.5-ft3
Diamond Audio-D612D4 16mm-Xmax 32Hz-Fs 0.49-Qts 5.905-Depth 1.175-ft3
HiFonics-ATL12D4 17mm-Xmax 27Hz-Fs 0.437-Qts 7.22-Depth 1.5-ft3
HiFonics-B12D4 15mm-Xmax 31.77Hz-Fs 0.488-Qts 6.7-Depth 2-ft3
HiFonics-BRZ12D4 15mm-Xmax 31.77Hz-Fs 0.488-Qts 6.7-Depth 2-ft3
JL Audio-12W6v2D4 16.5mm-Xmax 25Hz-Fs 0.45-Qts 7.6-Depth 1.25-ft3 $308
MB Quart-PWH304 15mm-Xmax 26Hz-Fs 0.545-Qts 7.1-Depth 1.3-ft3
MTX-T851244 21.59mm-Xmax 35.48Hz-Fs 0.74-Qts 7.8125-Depth 1.25-ft3
Rockford Fosgate-T112D4 14mm-Xmax 33Hz-Fs 0.55-Qts 6.7-Depth 1.25-ft3
Does anybody have any experience with any of the subwoofers above they would like to share? I've also attached an easier to read version of the subwoofers in question.
I'll share some of my opinons on subwoofers I've owned:
Kicker Comp 12" (pre Solo-Baric): tight base, not robust design, overstated power handling
Cerwin Vega 12" (pre Stroker or any other series): best frequency response of any sub I've ever had, not high SPL, 3 ft3 enclosure not very practical
B52 15": Xmax way to low for power rating, not great frequency response for a 15", 4 ft3 enclosure not very practical, not robust design
Rockford Fosgate RFR-1212 12": crazy SPL, ok frequency response, robust design, nice sound quality, enclosure requirement is a little large
Kicker L5 12": ok SPL, ok frequency response, not very robust design, not very good sound quality, enclosure size small
Rockford Fosgate P1 8": great frequency response for an 8", very small enclosure requirement, not high SPL due to limited power, not very good sound quality
Rockford Fosgate Power 8": ok frequency response for an 8", very small enclosure requirement, not high SPL considering power handling, ok sound quality
Phoenix Gold RSd 10": probably the worst subwoofer I've ever owned, poor sound quality, poor frequency response, poor SPL, very small enclosure requirements
Rockford Fosgate RFP1210 10": ok frequency response, very small enclosure requirements, good SPL, good sound quality
Alpine R-Series 10": poor frequency response, small enclosure requirements, poor SPL considering the power handling, good sound quality
