This is only true to an extent, a Toyota owner for instance will pay for much less repairs than a ford, chevy or dodge . American cars are in buisness of selling parts not reliabilty. They are all as good as whom ever owns them, takes care of them. They will all need something at some point or another.
Bro, how are you even in the conversation when you have a cavalier? Your timing belt could break at any moment and ruin your whole engine, LOL. All i own is old american cars. My mom had an 88 towncar with over 600k, and no major repairs. We used to build them good. Especially the old inline 6s. My daily driver is an 81 pontiac with 70 model w-30 olds under the hood. Thats an american engine for your ***.Front end parts dont hold up on any of the "american " cars.
I agree with this. Though it is mostly the owner, as well. Everyone talks **** about dodge neons but I got one with 160k, and have had very little issues. My clutch went out, that's it.This is only true to an extent, a Toyota owner for instance will pay for much less repairs than a ford, chevy or dodge . The ECOTECH's do not have a belt, they have a chain. And don't think for a second that the 302 in your vic can't brake.Bro, how are you even in the conversation when you have a cavalier? lol, I didn't even notice he said belt. Even the older 2.2 l motors in the cavi was a chain. Older motors did not generally hold up to the miles of modern engines do nowadays anyways. I also don't see a towncar of any year lasting anywhere near 600k. I wanna see proof of this. The ECOTECH's do not have a belt, they have a chain. And don't think for a second that the 302 in your vic can't brake. They have metal teeth on a phenolic gear assembly that are known to brake quite often. And also don't think for a second that American (older) motors are not non-interference motors.
Back when, I had a 74 ford e100 with a 302 and the crank gear went(the phenolic material gave out) and guess what.....bent all 8 intake valves and ruined 2 pistons.
And to be perfectly honest, the older American motors are good and strong but WAY under powered for what they are.
Hell, most V6's today have more power and TQ than the V8's of back then. (small blocks that is)
I agree. I actually (my wife) has an 05 Cavi....Good car so far.lol, I didn't even notice he said belt. Even the older 2.2 l motors in the cavi was a chain. You have been very fortunate with your neon, we get alot of them at work along with all the other dodge products and most of them have several issues. I have been lucky with my cavi as well , but I'm not saying they are great cars.I agree with this. Though it is mostly the owner, as well. 04 was the last year for the cavi. They changed to the cobalt in 05.I agree. I actually (my wife) has an 05 Cavi....Good car so far.
