bench testing amp question

i hear people saying stuff bout testing a amp saying its putting out 1200 watts an 13.2 volts.....how the hell do you do it i kno its with a DMM but what do i do??

volts x amps = watts....however this is using a load resister and a signal generator...depending on the manufacturer of the amp..especially a class D amp you will need to find out what the frequency was that they tested and determined output at..its a primitive way of testing but it does work...

so where do set the dmm to get it, this is mine. my camp meter is in the cold

You'll set that meter to ACV (AC volts), and the clamp meter to ACA (AC amps).

Clamp goes around the positive speaker wire.

That goes just as you said. Red on the positive speaker lead, black on the negative speaker lead.
