It is real. They have been going around for a while on the net (I've been seeing 1 or 2 a week). None of the carriers will send you information about package deliveries in the form of attachments.
They may send you a link to tracking info, but to be safe don't click those even. Instead, copy the tracking number which will also be in the email, and go to their home page, find the tracking form there and paste in the number. That way you'll avoid the possibility that the link is also not real.
