Hi there, I have a question about battery wiring. This is for my trolling motor, not car audio but should be the same, I thought there would be some people here that could answer it best for me.

I am trying to get the most storage I can for the money. Basically my trolling motor is 24 volts. What I am wondering is can I use 4 12 volt batteries. 2 banks of 2 in parallel with each other providing 12 volts from each bank still, then put those 2 bank is series to get 24 volts. I think it would work just like voicecoils but want to make sure before I hook them up.

Here is a crude drawing of what I am talking about, but what I am unsure of also is where would I pull my 2 wires from that go to the trolling motor.

My dad and I just did this. You're correct in your picture. I don't know what kind of boat you've got, but if it doesn't have a tie down for your batts, it's best to make one so you don't risk fire when you're in rough water. If those babies bounce you risk a terminal popping off and shorting somewhere. You can combat this with buss bars and brackets. It might cost a little more money up front, but if you don't do it and it causes a fire while you're on the water you'll wish you would have //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

For 4 batteries you must have one hell of a trolling motor.

LOL, its only a 56lb thrust one. This is for a 16 foot bass boat. I kkep it out in a kinda private community that my grandparents have a place at. Out there tho there is no gas motors allowed, so I can only use the trolling motors, I took my outboard off, that why I want as much storage as I can get, because after a long day of fishing the batteries get weak.

I do run dual 36lb thrust ones on the rear for getting across the lakes better, but they are 12 volts and run off their own dedicated batteries already.

I will pursue this option then
