checked walmart and they have everstart maxx for $60. it has 850 cca vs. 720 from the redtop. so what makes the redtop wqorth more?

the name. btw doesnt everstart like make optima?

I'm not in Michigan and Louisiana winters aren't very harsh (very seldom do we see sub-zero temps)

Our summers are pretty brutal down here south of the Mason-Dixon line, though, and extreme heat does a number on batteries as well.

I've got a Duralast Gold from AutoZone, too, and it keeps on kickin' without fail or compliant. It's not maintenance-free...gotta keep your eye on the water levels...but I check it once a month and as of yet haven't had to add any. how much did those duralast cost you, and what is the cca on them? seems like a few people have had good success with them so i think i might go with that.

The one I have is 800cca (much more than needed for a 1.6L Toyota motor...had to argue with the AutoZone "expert" that it was my freggin' money and if he didn't want it I was willing to wager that the folks at Advance Auto Parts across the street would be) and it hit for...let me think...in the neighborhood of $70 with tax, IIRC? Like 6 or 7 years warranty length of which 3 years are total replacement coverage and the remainder is pro-rated.
