battery swelling or is this normal?

^ thats what I'm trying to figure out if it's something on my part. As of right now I have the big 3 done with 2/0 welding cable the duracell agm batt and the ea 300 alt. I don't even have a power and ground ran due to upgrading.

The car starts great and all. Could it be heat these are meant for under the hood so i don't believe that would be a issue.
From what I've read about agms and other sealed type batteries, heat is a killer..(ideal battery temp is 77°) ..as well charging them too fast, reason why they need electronically regulated chargers. I also recall someone saying even left on a 1/2 amp charge warps the plates and every 15°F more reduces lifespan.

Its why the car manufacturers store them elsewhere basides the engine compartment and, is definitely a reason why there are many that have lasted 150k+ miles or 10+ years before needing replacement.

And i have my 31 right up against the radiator hose.

So are you saying heat Could be my issue. I know it's get hot under the hood but it about 6 to 8 inches away from the raidiator and after that there is nothing else that could heat it more than the normal egine bay would

Considering the huge amount of under hood agm's without problems, no.

Very possible. Just Exchange it.

both mine are less than 2 years old, i noticed the swelling less than 6 months in

im in fl and its hot as **** under the hood so who knows. batts seem just fine they rest within their operating range.

i recently shorted the **** out of them and they took it like a champ. still charging fully and discharging normally. nothing has changed.

I'm going to switch them out and if it happens again then Il have to change setup. How about relocating the batt to the back. I can make buss bars for the big three and

All the grounds and run my 4/0 back. I don't seem to see a lot of people doing it so might not be such a good idea

So I did some research and I'm feeling like it's completely normal. There's a good document published by a respectable source that discusses agm and vrla batteries and they essentially state that due to the cells being completely sealed some pressure build up is normal

Vrla is valve regulates lead acid. Sealed batteries are vented, with a regulated valve. This is for safety and normal operational offgassing

So what ya think give it another week or two and see how she does. I have 18 months on it not sure if it's prorated or not.

get it load tested if you're actually worried about it, but you need to fully charge it before you get it tested so drive for a good 20-30 mins at a decent speed so your alternator charges it

iirc the warranty is 3 years or something idk
