battery isolators

What r the purpose of them??? Are they worth spending money on, the local car audio shop keeps telling to get thyat and a ho alternator. I the ho alternator will be helpful, but will the battery isolator be???

A battery isolator seperates the front and rear batteries so if you are playing your system with the key off you wont drain the battery upfront. They also arent a bad idea if you are running two different kinds (not neccesarily brands) of batteries.

They do cause a .7 voltage drop from front to back batteries though.

If you are using the same kind of batteries and rarely or never listen with the car off than I wouldnt worry about using one.

Im getting one soon only because my second battery drains the starting battery. if you dont measure your battery voltage often then you wont notice the difference because your car will still start like normal. i noticed it when I had my second battery disconnected from my system the battey volt on my starting battery where at around 11.9-12.00 volts. then one day I had my radio on for about 30 mins with my amps off volume knob real low about at about 5 out of 62 and i be darned if the starting battery went dead. I usually play like this with no problems with only the starting battery for about 1-2 hours but after getting the second battey its been doing that lately when I have the second one dissconected. guess thats why people say get one if you have different batteries.

I run a stinger 200 amp relay, pretty much the same thing as an isolator. I have it wired so it seperates the battery when the key off, and also when the key is on I can still seperate them.
