battery floating voltages

If you do not drive the car very often, the batteries will drain each other over time. This will lead to shortened lifespans of the batteries. You should use an isolator so they disconnect when the car is off (at minimum) and also think about investing in an intelligent power supply. The Kinetik power supplies work with any brand of battery and will not only charge the battery, it will also maintain it afterwards. Like McIntosh mentioned, you don't want your batteries to become sulfated or stratified. Either condition will at best diminish the capacity, or at worst, completely kill your battery.

If you want to know more about proper battery maintenance, see this link.

thanx. I had a read of the article and things are more clearer now.

Rather than the isolator method, I will just disconnect both negatives

That will work just fine as far as keeping them from draining. If you wanted to make sure they kept maintained too, you would want a charging system likethe Kinetik Intelligent Power Supply -> LINK
