Hey I have a 600 watt rms soundstream xta600.2 and the wiring aint the best but shouldnt have beed a problem because i used to bump my system all the time and 2 days ago I went up to circuit city because the vans starters going out, he checked the battery and it was in good shape. But today had to be back luck, my friend told me that a butterfly flyin around you gives u bad luck, and one did, i didnt believe him but just my luck. But I was on the freeway just drivin at 80 and I can hear the alternator wine, so I turned down the volume got off and exit trying to find a good place to stop to take the wiring off the battery, but then my lights were diming and the engine laged badly, then the engine just shut off, so I was ****ed, then someone came to jump it for me, but didnt work at all. so I was stranded and no one can get me a new battery or somethin. Then ended up getting it towed to the house. tryd to charge the battery with the other car hooked up, waited for bout 30 min and tryd to start it and nothing. Can yal tell me what the cause is, and what should I do to get my battery working againd, I got one of those 1 amp chargers, how long should that take to charge a dead battery?

Been there deal with that got stranded at my friends house like half hr away from me got it towed towing company was stupid though and actually got lost . so ended up being 2hrs . saved up my cash for a while so had to use my parents car for like 4 weeks which wasn't fun cause i was putting gas in theres while i knew i still had to save gas money some how for my car. after saving up alot of cash at the time ended up going with a 175amp alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

hes only running 600 watt rms system....you guys really think he needs an HO alt? sure it wont hurt but wouldnt that be a significant dent in his pocket as opposed to just a stock alt?

sounds like an HO would be overkill to me but if you got the cash it couldnt hurt.

but yes if your alt dies then everything running off electricity in your car at the time is running off the battery...with nothing to charge it up as this is happening (alternator) your battery would die while driving

I'm not sure what your driving but a brand new alt should be around $50-60, I wouldn't worry about a HO one yet. I'd rather spend $50 on a regular alternator and see if it works then forking out hundreds when you might not even need to.

You said you have a 1 amp charger, thats a trickle charger, and usually used to keep small motorcycle batteries 'warm' when your not using it for a long time. I've never tried charging a car battery with one, so I don't know how long it would take. For a car battery, you want to use a 10 amp charger and charge it for at least 8-10 hours. Borrow one from a friend or neighbor if you can.

Also, you can probably get a used alternator from a wreckers for maybe $20. I did that with one of my cars, put it in myself in about an hour, its a good idea if your working with a budget...

Ok I just found something out, the power wire had a hole in it so the metal was touching ground chasis, yikes. But someone told me it could be a fuse for the alternator, Im going to sleep but when I wake ill try the fuse, but the best bet could be the alt dead? and someone said the battery cell might have been blown

Take the alt out and take it to Autozone. Have them check it. It very well might be the alt from the way you explained it. I've been there as well. And the scary thing was mine just went out all of a sudden while i was driving.

yea man this sucks, so how do I take the alt out without messin with all them belts, im not that experienced with that part of the electricle. could autozone check it out for me?

No way around that i dont think. It cant be as hard as my 300m. You have to know someone who can take it off and put it back on for you. But I'm like you. I can run power for an amp, but I will call someone to work on anything under my hood. Depending on the car you can buy a Haynes or a Chilton manual. They are usually like 20 something bucks but they tell you everything. The book wont make you a mechanic, but you should at least see how to remove your alt. From there you can determine if it is something you can do.
