So what should the resting voltage of a batt. be? Dry cell that is... Listed on it says "stand by use" 13.6~13.8..... my dmm is reading 12.8.... is that what it should be? since my batt in my truck rests at that?

Standby use indicates charging voltage that should be applied if the battery is used for - wait for it.... standby use. Such as in emergency lights, UPS's, etc. Essentially everywhere that there is a constant voltage on the battery.

Cyclic use would be your car battery, which is charged every so often when the car is run, used when the car is started. This use does not have a constant voltage on it. Typically cyclic use is higher voltage to induce a shorter charge time. STandby use is lower voltage to reduce heat and extend life.

Your car batteries voltage is in the normal range.

Yeah, put the probes on the power wire and ground wire of the amplifier. Multimeter on DC. Do not put it on the wires that go to your speakers. M
