Basic 12's Kicker vs Alpine

Ok, my friend is going to pay me next weekend to install two twelves in his 03 Accord Sedan. He's on pretty tight budget so I don't think we're gonna be getting d-class amps... Right now we're looking at 2 12" Type R's or Comp VR's. We're probably gonna give the comps more power cuz this guy's a noob and he wants teh rms to match. Both will go into a sealed 0.88-1cu foot/chamber. He claims he wants strictly SQ but this is this guy's first system and he is a complete noob (he says my L5's sound sick...they're alright but but nothing special) so I know a decent SPL setup could do the trick. CVR's are more spl right. If I gave them about a hundred more watts total rms in the sealed, they'd get louder right? Do these things sound alright in sealed? I know tons of people with type r's so I have no questions about that, but how do the two compare.

i've had both and i'd give the thumbs up to the comp vr's.

comp vrs would better spl wise

type r's would probably better sq wise.

my vr 12's were 1.0cu.ft per sub with a punch 800 and they sounded so clean and got pretty loud as well.i don't think he would be disappointed with 2 vr 12's 1.0per sub.

how much money does he have to sped on an amp?

the vr 12's would be a good choice for spl and they would sound decent sq wise in that enclosure but as far as the type r's go i havent had any experience with them so i couldnt tell ya

one of my older systems was 2 12" vr's in 1.1 ft^3 sealed ... 2 in same chamber ... Sounded ok. Got surprisingly loud with about 400-450 rms going to them. Sounded decent though. Good first system for anyone looking for a mix of SPL/SQ on a tight budget.

Alright thanks for the replies, I think i'm gonna try to convince him to go with the comp vr's then. But I think he's gonna buy type r components and 6x9 soon so he might be a noob and wanna get all the same stuff. I doubt he's gonna get a sick amp, probably just soem basic profile or jbl. right now i'm just living off my two ten l5's and profile amp cuz i sold my last stuff for money, but neither of these subs would get as loud huh. he's the one that asked, i really couldnt give him a for sure answer, but i'd be 99% positive mine would be louder if everythings sealed.

You really have to get on him about it. Fifty bucks now or 350 down the road. An amp can make all the difference. If he doesn't want to spend the money now, tell him you won't install it till he saves for the "PROPER" amp.
