Bar Chords (Help with a Guitar)

Alright, I just picked up Guitar. I'm borrowing my cousin's Fender Acoustic. It's a big momma, though. 4-1/2" wide body.

Anyway, I can't seem to get bar chords properly. I always end up muting one or two strings, and at other times it just sounds bad.

Any pointers?

Finger exercises for an hour every day. Then play bar cords for another hour since you **** dick at it.

acoustic tends to be a bit tougher to play but it will get easier.

u gota keep at it .. try to keep puting your fingers down on the stringes lift each finger up and put it back in to the chord postion. dont pick any strings just work on your fingers.

I know finger exercises on guitar are boring but they will give you better flexibility and dexterity. Also, I bought one of those little stress balls and use it in my idle time.

You will get it just stay the course.

i generally pick up the guitar and pick at it as i watch tv.

Best to try and play with out looking at the guitar and just try and find where you are on the fretboard with out looking.

ill sit there and watch tv and jump cords or do scales quietly so it doesnt bother the wifey. an hour could go by and your fingers will hurt but next morning you will notice its easier and easier

On bar cords you can use your thumb to mute out the E and A string if needed. You can put electric strings on a acoustic guitar. It will still sound good and be much easier to learn! Go out and get some super slinks! Get some finger ease spray makes the strings slippery and less callouses. Cut your finger nails as short as you can stand on fingering hand.

Try using a little more of the side of your finger. Its a little meatier than the bottom of your finger. I bar all my power chords so I got good at barre chords without even really trying.

Yeah. I'm getting chords. That's not the problem. The problem is trying to hold down all six with my index finger. You see, my hands are small (it makes for a great self-esteem boost. Either that or I really am just big.)

I suppose it all takes practice and time to form calluses.

Yamaha makes good guitars with smaller necks....btw...I have small hands too.

Shit, Bob Marley was barely 5'5" and he jammed that mofo..my favorite artist btw.

You will never master the guitar. Even the greats continue to learn. It is a great instrument.
