bad to under power boofers?

You're more than likely pushing the amp too hard, causing it to put out dirty power.
They sound perfect up until a certain point and then they get this sort of hollow sound.. My buddy has the 9104 and the same subs and his amp is cranked all the way up and his boofers don't make that sound that mine do

Where the gain is set, very much depends on the signal that is being fed to it. A lower voltage signal would require a different gain setting than a higher voltage signal going to the same amp, assuming the same load on both.

Sounds like your buddies system is setup pretty poorly too (gains cranked all the way up).

You can't compare one guys gain settings to another guys gain setting. If there was an ideal setting, it would be setup at the factory, but since it's dependent on external factors....

I say we stop entertaining the continuation of this thread until OP starts referring to his speakers as A: Speakers , B: Subs (Subwoofers) , Or C: Woofers.

Boofers just sounds ghey , i would never ride around with boofers in my car. LOL

Or we could thread jack this and steer it off on tangent.

I made up the word boofers because like this, suBwOOFERS. i cant believe you all really hate it that much.. I think its an awesome thing to call em.

But if it will help me get answeres them I'll call them woofers.

I just want to know if it's a poor idea to under power a set of 600w woofers by 150w each.

Amp in question: kenwood 9105d

Subs in question: pair of alpine 1223

as long as your not clipping them, then under powering will bring no harm, but if you are unhappy with the output and start cranking the gain to make up for it you will burn up the subs

and boofers is probably the worst name for a sub that i have ever heard in my life //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Ok great, thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'll get the alpine 1222s then.
