Hopefully somebody that works for kicker will come in here. Can a kicker KX600.1 amp run 1 ohms? I mean is it really bad for it?

I had a L5 with dual 2 ohm voice coils hooked up to one and I thought it had dual 4 ohm voice coils. So instead of having it hooked up for 2 ohms, it was hooked up for 1. Thing is, it ran fine (very well in fact) but I always wondered why it thumped so loud with the amp turned so low, I guess I know now lol.

NEways, the L5's lead wire broke and there's a small tear in the spider, so I'm buying a new sub. Would it be okay to get one that runs at 1 ohm with like 1000 watts? Or would running that much power through the amp fry it? Experts help a noob plz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/help.gif.cee8f684da1ba626487a8bc51152e1ec.gif

K, JW cuz I had it hooked up like that for like 3 months, and I took the amp in to get it checked out when I realized it, and they said it was fine. I guess I was still only running what the 600w rms sub could handle even though it was at 1 ohm...

like ice said, u risk frying the amp..and voiding ur warranty.

running like that really increases heat..and the risk of meltdown.

it's up to u whether to continue to run it like that. kicker makes some quality products, but they all have their limits.

my advice, get a second amp so u can run one to each coil, get an amp that puts out twice the power at one ohm (memphis 1000d comes to mind) or get a d4 sub. but i'd quit pushing my luck with the amp i have.

I'll agree with Mrray. It's safest to pick up another Kicker -or- a different amp that's stable to 1ohm.

I'd like to add that, if you workout the in-box impedance, you may find that you are running the amp above 1 ohm. Impedance rise.

I've got a similar set up a JL500/1 running at .5 ohms. been running strong for year and couple mnths never gets hot. but like everybody says, its ur amp ur risk, if it blows u know why
