bad idea??

Here's a quote from twisztd's build log, maybe you can do something like this.

I need Opinions. #1 or #2 on tweeter locationWill be angled properly later, just sitting there for reference.

#1

#2

Im voting for #1 but #2 will be easier to glass in to place i think.

Also #2 might be cutting close to the manual window opener for people with fat hands. =S
Finished (well, not finished, but you get the idea):

just cut your door, use threadserts if possible (yea right) or an mdf baffle works excellent.. best idea for your situation in my opinion.. if you give me a few minutes ill upload a couple pics..

alright.. this is in an 08 scion xd i did a simple install on a month or two back...

the speakers were in baffles, all one piece, riveted to the door. no screws, nothing. i had to drill the rivets out, took the speakers out, in their baffles, but now theres a hole too big to fit the speaker. what to do??

make the shape out of mdf, fasten it to the door, screw the speaker into the baffle...

there you go... you can follow the same procedure.. make a cutout in cardboard, find hole you can mount to (make sure you have access through the backside) and trace it onto mdf... cut out... fasten, screw!

Yeah... it's a bad idea. Just take out your stock speakers and either A) Cut your door or B) Make a baffle so that it fits... but if you make a baffle the odds of your door panel fitting on might be decreased...

good call.. forgot to mention that.. i did a test fit on all doors before installing the baffles...

the technique wasted showed me looks easy enough. i would like to keep my doors looking stock though but how would sound quality be if i didnt have it in a all out enclosure? also the speaker is bigger the dustcover in the stock location if the outside edges are covered up will i lose sq there? heres a awesome drawing to depict speaker size.

ok ill see what i can get working over this weekend then thanks man
i might have a few more pics from the install, but probably just similar to the ones i showed. if need be, i can post them when the time comes. its a pretty straight forward process, but feel free to ask questions..
