Bad day so far... could it be because of car stereo?

So lately i've been noticing that my sub amp is starting to cut off when i have my stereo on full tilt. It'll be fine for like the first 10 minutes, then it'll start cutting off. The only time i had this problem before was at night when i had my lights on and i was sitting in a stop light. Now it was happening with the lights turned off and while driving.

Could this be my battery dying? I haven't done the big 3 and it's just a cheap-o energizer battery.

Today it became wayy worse and couldnt turn it past like 35 in my headunit without it cutting off (normally i have it at 50). Driving to school on the freeway, all of the sudden my battery light comes on. So i turned off my headunit, and then a very loud clunking sound starts happening. I get off at the first exit and park somewhere, pop the hood and see that one of my pulleys has fallen off (not completely though, just because really loose). It's the engine pulley that connects to the alternator. Could it have gotten loose due to strain on the alternator?

key points: Battery might be dying. Strain on alternator caused pulley to come loose? ******* pissed.

Tighten the belt, and, if it's still happening, get a new battery. (I spent like $30 bucks on a Duralast Gold series, and it's teh bomb) If it's still happening, invest in The Big 3.

Even if it's 4 AWG, it's better than nothing.

The alt will not spin any faster because it is "Straining", its speed is regulated to the engine's RPM. Now internally, yes it could be working harder to try and produce more power to keep up, but it will not fall off because of voltage strain.

well i haven't seen the true damage to the pulley yet since i havent had time all day. The guy who towed my car said that the rubber inside the pulley might've broken off due to wear (160,xxx miles). idk if he was just talking out of his *** or not though.

BTW, its the pulley that's attached to the motor, and the serpentine belt goes around that, the alt, and the starter (i think, lol). I know the belt was tight before that happened.

The only reason i think it's my battery dying instead of my alt is because I put in a brand new alt like 5 months ago. And also because even with the stereo turned off, it looked like it was having trouble rolling up the windows, lol, didnt have that before.

EDIT: I'm gonna do the big 3 once i can get some money. School ftl.

Mechanic who worked on your car fcked up
your alternator cannot spin faster then what your engine can.
lol, of course it can't. But couldnt the added power cause more pressure on the serpentine belt, and thus made the rubber (if it's rubber) finally tear from use?

oh... and im the only one who works on my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

if the pulley was coming loose, its probaly not your battery...

the alt wasnt spinning correctly, probaly even before it fell completely off, so your car started drawing more power from the battery... eventually the battery ran out of power and couldnt be recharged without proper flow from the alt..

hence your problem... the battery is probaly fine... granted you may need a bigger one if it was cutting off before that, but that might not be the case.. fix the pulley, see waht happens, if its still happening, make sure its not your amp thats overheating
