bad amp?

So I have had this Infinity Kappa Five 5 channel amp for a little less than two weeks now. The other day, I started up the car, and I could immediately hear this odd whirring noise coming from the rear speakers. The front speakers sound fine, as does the subwoofer.

If I could describe the noise, it would be similar to searching for a radio station on an analog dial where the pitch goes a lil high, low. The left rear speaker then usually pops, the audio goes silent, and the amp resets, and the cycle repeats itself.

Does this sound like an amp issue? All connections at the amp are secure. I will pull the headunit to make sure the RCA's haven't been jarred loose somehow.

Yea, it had been working just fine for about ten days or so. I did not move any equipment around. The noise comes from the rear channel only, but when the rear speaker pops, it causes the amp to apparently reset, and all speakers go dead for a second or two.

I don't see some shoddy RCA connections doing that, with the resetting. I'd check your ground thoroughly.

You should check the speaker wiring at all connections to make sure there are no loose single strands of wire shorting out to anything...this is what it sounds like, or maybe a bad speaker, but usually with speakers, they just stop working....but this is Car Audio and anything is possible.

The amp turned out to be bad. Returning that, replacing it with a Polk PA D5000.5
