bad amp, ground loop, or i goofed?

So guys, I currently have two ztx 5000.1's and I've had one for a while working flawlessly, but when I installed the second I suddenly got a loud thump after my stereo started. It only came from the new amp. There is also some slight noise present but it is very faint. When I started my stereo again the amps protect light came on for about a second then it switched to green and made the noise. The two amps are connected via the preouts on each other. When I switched the RCA from my head unit to the new amp, and ran the out RCA from it to my old amp, the thump stopped. However, there is still a slight noise in my subwoofers. Both amps are grounded direct to battery and this issue only started once the second amp had its rcas plugged into the first. Could the amp be faulty or ground loop, or what?

Edit: i played with the rcas a bit. The signal seems clear from either amp until they are connected to eachother. maybe bad rcas? theyre knuconcept ones. ive gotten it to where it just has a slight noise, almost like a radio interference along with a really slow heartbeat in it. It is very light, and seems to change a bit when i pause my stereo, at volume 0. increased volume seems to have no effect. This is all while the car is off btw, just key at accessory.

i had the same kinda problem , the one time it was y head unit and the other was well i used the outputs on my amp instead of using a rca splitter. Like u plug a set of rcas into it and instead of 2 rcas you have 4 . What i did was i hooked up the regular rcs up to the one amp then used the amps (( output rcas)) when i did that it made the noise. Try using a splitter or even try splicing rcs together.. and sometimesthe rcas ground gets messed up and causes thay popping sound

I re-read ur post to be 100% sure i read it right. I think you should not use the AMPs (( preouts)) and just try splitting the rcas. Like what i did was take 2 pairs of rcas....... cut them.... and re wire them togher so that you use 2 rcas for ur headunit and now u have 4 rcs wich go to your amps.. try splitting your rcas and wiring them together. Its worked for me. Or you can go to the store and grab a ready mde one.

But yea dont use the amps rca out puts just split ur rca's , and tie the together. Like cut them. Theres going ro be 2 wires inside each ( wire)) so like tie the outter grounds together and tape them and then the positives . The wire thats wrapped inside the plastic ,thats the positive , the wire that dosent have insolation around it is the negitive. Like take a pair of rcs amd cut them. Ull aee theres 2 wires inside a (( WIRE)) one insolated and the otjer not. Insolation = pos non insulation = ground. Sorry for being kind of repetibe but im trying to make everything simple lol

Thanks for the replies xD i thought about that, and was going to try using a splitter since it only happens when using a preout. But it seems odd to me as I always thought they were almost the same thing just on the amp. But then again weirder stuff has happened lol. If that fixed yours ill give it a shot. There's a nice shop down the road that'll probably let me test out a couple splitters if they're open today.

Replaced the rcas, so they're not the issue. I'll try a splitter next. Hopefully tomorrow. Stuck with the noise for today.

Edit: I have two splitters sitting at work ready to be put in. I did the whole head unit ground RCA thing, I moved my grounds, I added another ground in the engine. Its not something up front. Head unit disconnected and it does it. Maybe a damaged amp. Hopefully a split works.

Edit 2: Splitters hooked up and fixed it. Everything is working perfect now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
