avy loosin electrical power at high volume

my friend let me borrow is 08 avalanche for a couple days ....i had the volume on the head unit all the way up bass all the way down and the volume on the ipod all the way up wit the EQ set to treble booster. i played put on and on the high note the lights dim to the point that they are almost off and last night all fo the electronics acutally reset while i was driving the truck when i was bangin. the guages all shut off radio went off lights went off...everything went off for about 2 seconds then came back on and it was playing fine again...but still dimming.

also the subs sometimes just cut out and stop playing all together when i turn it up all the way but when i turn it back down they play again. i have no clue what it could be....somebody help me out?

he gave me the car for that exact reason. he said it never did that before he rewired the subs and wanted me to see what was up....so im postin all over to check.

Ok well the way you posted it made it sound like he loaned you the truck and you messed his stuff up and youre trying to figure out what happened. Now that you mentioned whats going on ill suggest you should check the voltage, is the big 3 done on the truck, extra batts? those pdx amps are pretty bad, so im gonna say its pulling atleast 1.3k, which is a bit much for a stock alty, unless the big 3 is done. If you know how to use a multimeter get that out and play the subs decently loud and check the voltage drops. May need to add a second batt with that setup

thanks....yeah i know they are bad amps, i told him that when he bought it but hes insisted on wasting his 850 bucks on it.

anyway...yeah they were pulling more than 1k watts. i said its not worth it to **** your electrical so i took the subs out and wired them to a 4ohm load on the amp. they sound much better actually now than they did before and hit hard as hell. and from what i am reading the amp still puts out the "supposed" 1000 watts at 4 ohms.

another question for you guys though....are there any prefab boxes out there for l7's for the avy that would be better than this one that he has... http://caraudiofactory.com/20012009-chevy-avalanche-square-hole-poly-p-270.html

he needs it waterproof because we use it for work all the time.

You could build something similar and either resin it or use bed liner to make it waterproof. Cheaper in the end and all in all better than a pre-fab
