Autozone - funny story

Alright, I went to autozone a couple days ago to bench test my ho alternator. My alternator is 240amps and has an external regulator so the regulator built into the alternator is wired different. I told them this and they kind of gave me a look like I didn't know what I was talking about. After telling them a couple more times and saying if they hook it up wrong it might ****age their equipment. Anyways, they hooked up the alternator and I looked at the way they hooked it up and said "you know that doesn't have an regulator on it so it might put out a shitload of volts if it's hooked up wrong." The guy said "Yah, I know" They turned it on and the bench tester flashed/sparked then it read that it was putting out 75amps. I left the store thinking he messed up my alternator but I wasn't sure depending on how iraggi wired the regulator. I went to call him up a couple times to see what he says. He didn't anwser the phone. I went head and installed the alternator and it's really bad ***. Anyways, Yesterday I went to autozone looking for a plug for the alternator and overheard one of employees saying "I think our alternator machine took a poop. we've bench test 3 alternators 2 brand new and all of them are 'dead'." I'm just happy that the employee's incompetence ruined autozones equipment and not mine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hehe, that is pretty funny. Most employees, of any store, really just don't know what they are talking about. Then again, for the money they make, you can't expect them to. Let us know how the alt does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The alt has been kicking *** so far. I didn't realise how bad my old alt was. All the lights in my dash looked like they were going out before and now they're all very brite. The overall performance of my car increased a little. I was having trouble charging my bat with my old alternator and now the battery gauge on my dash is showing higher than it's ever been before. I'll know about the performance of it better after I get my other amp in. The coolest thing about the alt is the adjustible regulator. I can set the voltage from 13.5-22 volts by a turn of a knob. The bad about that is anything above 14.7 volts will fry my car. I'm worried about taking it to a repair shop and having them mess with that knob. I plan on writing a review. The only bad thing about it is it was getting really hot. Hot to the touch. I'm not sure if alts usually do this because I haven't noticed it before. Anyways, my old alt was shot. when I took it out the plastic where the pos wire goes to the alt was melted. The nut was actually welded to the bolt. I'm not sure how long it would last but it looked like it was going to go out.
