Audiophiles can't tell the difference between Monster Cable and a coathanger

I have a pretty nice heatgun you could borrow Mir.
Nice cables by the way. How much do you charge, materials included?
bring that gun sunday. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those cables since i am making 4 20'(2channel) and1 3'(1channel) ended up being around $130ish. not a bad price at all imo.

No thats not bad at all. I will bring the gun and talk to you more about it tomorrow.

When ever I see a test like this I want to know a few things.
1. What speaker were used?

2. What electronics?

3. How was everything wired?

4. How long did they get to listen?

5. What was the specific distances of cables?

6. What were the specs of the cables/coat hangers?

7. What material was used?

8. What was the room like?

9. Was the test matched SPL wise?

Anything that doesn't answer these questions, could be totally BSing you...

I design home theater systems where I work... and I must tell you their is a difference in cheap quality cables vs higher end well built cables.

I have a demo where I work where we have one speaker with cheap 14/2 speaker wire, and another one with Audioquest type 4 speaker wire, and by turning the balance left to right without telling everyday people which is which(only telling them what they will hear from one speaker....I.E more bass, clearer sound etc...) I would honestly say that about 70/100 people end up choosing the speaker that has the better higher end cables(we arent talking 1,000 cables here, we are talking $200 for a pair of 10 ft.)

Their is a difference.

Why buy 10k floor standing stereo speakers and connect them with standard 14/2?

Just my input.

Laugh all you want but its not my fault people want to buy a little bit higher end speaker wire when they can hear the difference. I could care less
No, I was laughing at both you, and them, for thinking they (and you) actually heard a difference.

*LOL* Squeak beat me again to the post haha.

People buy the higher end because when you tell them it cost more, then they assume it is better and choose it. Also probably a 95% chance the test setup is rigged just like the monster cable demos which are proven to be rigged.

not to mention that he said he would *guess* 70/100 people chose the higher priced cable.

1) its a guess

2) those odds arent good enough

as far as we know it could be lower than that. and i dont like those odds when talking about $200 cables. it should be a 100/100 thing when you're trying to sell me something thats suppose to make my equipment sound better.

That test is fundamentally flawed. Not only have you failed to isolate the proper variables, but I would consider a double-blind ABX test to be a much more effective way of proving your point.

To answer the question of whether one cable sounds better than a different one, I try to run through a series of questions.

1. Given two known samples and an unknown sample (that is in fact one of the original two), are we 100% sure that the only difference between the two known samples is the cables?

2. Are there differences in the physical properties of the cables?

3. Are there differences in the electrical properties of the cables?

4. What effects do these differences have in the reproduction of the source signal?

5. How are samples (in general) interpreted sonically?

6. Assuming the samples satisfy conditions 1-4 and we understand 5: Are the differences in the reproduction of the source signal perceivable? If they are perceivable, are they at or near the threshold of audibility?

7. Can these results be repeated? Are the results considered to be highly precise, ie. do they have a reasonable degree of mutual agreement amongst each other?

Perhaps there are other things I should be thinking about as well. But in my opinion, failure to heed any of these 7 steps (at the very least) results in a failure to objectively identify any differences between one cable or another.
