Ascendant Audio Arsenal

Registration required to see the graph. *shrug* But I get the jist, AA is implying comparing the specs is misleading, just like Adire with their new/old Brahma comparison. Catch is, from what I can see from the comment, it was modeled in only one specific enclosure. Time will tell if a driver with so much less displacement potential really stacks up. I suspect it wont.

Click on the graph....The Arsenal plays quite flat
I think that graph is kind of misleading... the Avalanche is a low end monster, putting both of them in a ported box like that kind of limits the Ava from doing its thing. The Arsenal seems to me like it favors the higher frequencies more so in that particular box, it probably comes out on top. Maybe I'm just talking out of my *** though haha.

I'd like to see them both in a sealed box comparison.

I am interested in the Havoc as well, I want and SQL sub tho. I heard the havoc was all out spl?
He assured me that the havoc is an sql driver optimized for ported boxes. He said it will sound very good, just much louder than the arsenal. He also mentioned that these new havocs will extend extreemly low. So im just going to hold off my plans for a new system for about a month or 2, and see what these have to offer.

It's not a model.
Okay, let me re-phrase it then. The test results are only using one enclosure type/size, I wouldn't make any broad sweeping comparisons between the two drivers based on that info alone. For one thing, with its almost 50% more displacement, clearly the Ava would own in a sealed system, for example.

how come if a noob comes in here and compares two subs by their xmax they get clowned on but now this whole thread is about how one sub must not get louder than the previous model because it has less xmax...how does this make sense?

I only stated louder in terms of a sealed system. In sealed systems, displacement rules. The Ava has considerably more displacement. Seems a fair statement to me.

isnt there more cone area on the new arsenal compared to the ava...

i dunno i dont think AA would make a statement like that if it wasn't true...if it isn't true, the people buying their products would find out eventually and then shit would hit the fan...

i dont think that is always true. i always thought the same thing as well. but when i started looking into getting an ED 15Ae which has about 29mm Xmax i thought man this thing should slam with that much Xmax. Then i was directed to this thread

http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=12483&highlight=Ae

where Ben Milne did a comparison with the Ae vs. the Ov2. The Ov2 has 19 mm Xmax ( a whole 10mm less) i know there isnt a huge difference in the results numbers wise, but to think that the Ov could keep up with and actually outproduce the Ae with that big of a difference in xmax was pretty interesting.

That comparison is pretty meaningless. They were testing flat out SPL, which means they were throwing the sub out towards Xmech with absolutely no concern for distortion.

When keeping the subs within their linear limits (i.e. not exceeding Xmax), it's a fact of physics that the sub that can move the most air will have more output (all things equal). Ofcourse enclosure and power differences could affect output at X frequency with X amount of input power....but for absolute linear output capabilities, the sub with more linear displacement will win every time.

Cone area could be compared by looking at each's sd (too lazy to go look). But the Ava has almost 50% more xmax (20mm vs 27mm) which means the arsenal would need almost 50% more cone area than the Ava to equal out. Something tells me the arsenal doesn't have that much more cone area (if any). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
