Are these CVR subs a good deal?

Thats a pretty good price for those subs w/ a box. Granted a better suited box will be louder and prolli sound better, but you have a drop in setup(if u have an amp) for $100. Can't do much better for the price. CVRs are sum of the better woofers in the low $$ range.

not always the case. i only used 2.5 (recommended from kicker) becuz i didnt have the airspace for any bigger. the program we used actually wanted 2.84 tuned to 36 hertz for optimal output. little off but i try not to go by the website specs if i can help it lol

 
Well, obviously you can divert from the specified enclosure volume, but for someone who is looking to make one box, and one that will work well, going with the subs specifications will get you the best results.
