Are the new alpine head units gonna replace the 9855?

Explain to me why a 2005 model would stay top when an entire lineup of new 2006 products has been released to replace them.

Yeah you're right, the 55/53 units are being replaced in 06. Though I dont completly agree that these units will be better. I happen to own a 9855, and like it. For one the new units arent out yet, so Alpine could have just as many problems with the initial "run" of this years units, as they did with the early production of the 9855, 9853. Two, though the 9853 was lacking in Pre-out voltage, and that was just about it, and the 9855 cured the preout problem with the outboard DC/DC converter that boosted preouts up to 4V, and both units come with very capable crossovers, and a 7 band Graphic EQ, and a 5 band Parametric EQ. So these units are far from "lacking". I am looking forward to the 9861, because it is one of my future puchases, if I dont go with an IVA-d310, but im not going to make assumptions on the quality of the new models.

just from scanning through the specs on alpine's site.. its seem like the $1600 9965 is the only HU to come with a active crossover and EQ like the 9855.

the other units come with some sort of EQ control but not tho the extent of the 65/55

that just hit me earlier in the week when we recieved a whole bunch of the middle of the line headunits. there are huge gaps between some units and minor details between others.

I really want a IVA-W200, but I am still pissed it is such a weak head unit. Thankfully I have a 700 processor, but Alpine really screwed the pooch on the W200 for those that don't have a 700/701.

Had Alpine 9855,worst 1 I owned.GlideTouch *****,espcially when scrolling through my ipod.Got a 9835 and 9815 FAR superior to the 55!!Swapped the 55 now for an IVA-D300 works much better with ipod and it aint ipod compatible!!!!

CDA-9857 and CDA-9856, respectively.. Now, are these equivalent to the 2005 models? Hell no.. Sometimes newer isn't always better.. I'll admit they do have some cool features, but also some cool features have been taken away.. Alpine goes further down hill every year.. I don't know who's in charge of marketing/development over there, but I think it's time for a change since they are likely to lose loyal customers.. And this is coming from a VERY loyal (and somewhat happy) Alpine fanboi..

Top 3 Alpine HU's IMO: CDA-7998, CDA-9835, CDA-9855, in that order.. So far the 2006 lineup doesn't look too promising (the DVA-9865 seems great, but what's with the price??), and I'm happy with my 9855 for now.. Hopefully Alpine will smarten up for 2007 since I think I'm set until then..
