AQ 1200 and system issues

Original issue sounds like your batt was not being charged and voltage dropped very low.

Really need to verify 12v at the amp for POS and REM and make sure ground is good...

Problem solved (I hope): secondary battery was resting at 10 volts, bypassed that, and everything seemed to work fine. Just keeping gain down until I can get a new battery. Thanks all

So the AQ turned on after only running the front battery? Are you running the amp at 1 ohm? If so I would get a HO alternator first and stick with one good battery up front for the meantime (if the battery is truly dead) but that's just me

My car already has a 150 amp alternator (I believe), and I'm trying to keep the spending at a minimum, but my d2 ssd is apparaently a d4, because it's reading 1.4 at the box. Think I'm going to get a deep cycle for my main battery and go from there, probably an interstate since we get them direct.

You need to find out why the second battery isn't charging. Usually that's a blown fuse between the front and rear but it can also be a poor ground or a bad battery. Also, gain is not something to turn up and down. It should be set correctly and left alone. And, turning it down when you have low voltage will not stop the amplifier from clipping, it will just lower the rail voltage at which it clips.

I lowered the gain to reduce draw, but my actual battery is out of an old v 8 truck. I think a new battery could potentially solve this, however, now my highs amp is cutting in and out. More frequently at low speeds and when I'm slowing down. Just really confused

It definitely sounds like voltage issues across the board. Your rear battery should be grounded to your front battery ideally. I would remove the back battery for now and put a dmm at the amp + and -, and play with the system while the car is running and see if each amp is seeing proper voltage. My bet is that at least one of them isn't. You need to make sure all of your connections are sound and not corroded. I was seeing a .5v dip and couldn't figure out why. It ended up being a little grime on my back battery's terminals. I gave them a wipe down and a quick scuff with a wire brush and I was back in business.

I would put the full range to ch.3&4, and low pass on ch.5&6. The 6.1200 line out should be full range unless it has a dedicated x-over. In that...

It should be fine as long as you're not looking to upgrade in the future.

Its not a huge upgrade and I'd argue you likely couldn't tell the difference.
