anything wrong with regular pvc

is there anything wrong with using regular pvc pipe, for an aeroport, instead of the flared kind.....will it cause a lot of port noise or something.....btw, how would i go about attaching the ports to the box?

I had been wondering the same thing. I think PVC would have alot of port noise as the flares are there to lessen that. As for mounting them you just cut a hole the same size as the PVC, slide it in, brace it internally. Preferably glass it into the box.

oh and you can flare your ports with a heat gun and a glass bowl to make the flare

You can also make flare ends out of mdf with a 3/4 or 1" roundover. It's not as much flare as the precision ports, but better than none and easy to make.

I was thinking thatd be possible. However PVC is highly toxic if actually burned if i recall correctly. Did you flare your ports? Id prefer to use PVC in my ported box builds if i can, whats the cost of it now? I need some 3" pvc for the next box build.

wow, i never thought of that, i might have to try some aeroport boxes now....who know's i might like them better than slot ports..

exactly what i did with my 4 6" aeros.. worked good. takes time to heat up the pvc enough to get it to flare nice and even without burning it though. got to be patient

so do you guys add on like an extra inch or two when you flare it or what? I didnt think the flare was included in the port length

if you just sand the edges smooth, and have close to the recommended port area, you'll have no problem. Using 4" thin wall pvc and elbows makes using round ports a lot cheaper. I used liquid nails to attach mine in my new box, works great.
