anyone with exhaust on a 4cyclinder?

muffler, I would be scared of any chick I could fist and still had wiggle room.
no, you're thinking of your head. The higher one.

my roommate has straight pipes on his 2006 v6 mustang. no lie it sounds like some sick nasty v8 is under the hood. only problem is there isnt. I know I know I have heard many a v6 cars with exhaust but none that even come close to how sick nasty his sounds
that sounds nasty

maybe at idle, but anything higher and it turns into @$$

I doubt exhaust will do anything for you, my suggestion would be take it as easy as you can on the gas. I notice a drastic change between my flying 85 on the highway to work and going 55-65.
haha i already drive like a 90year old.

I go 5 under the posted limit unless there are cars behind me. If there are cars behind me i go the speed limit and none over. I rarely ever drive on the interstate or really any big highway.

it is not the speed you go in the city, but the rate at which you get there

I usually go to the shop and look at the mufflers when picking one out. I usually make a fist and try to fist fuck it, if I can't fit my entire fist in there and wiggle it around without any lube I know I need to go biggar!!!!
for me this is about a 4" pipe. Put a turbo back 4" on a friends truck a while back and was shocked at the size //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif Hoping to put a single 5" on mine when I get around to it though.

This tip here should double the milage of any vehicle, absolutely a must, http://www.purecummins.com/catalog/exhaust/4inch-inlet-8inch-outlet-18inch-length-weld-chrome-exhaust-tip.php

jesus, that is quite big, even for a turbo

right... in the city its hard to get over 40mph, but i accelerate like a 90y/o. I mean come on its a 4 banger, i am not trying to race anyone and if thats the case i accelerate very slowly too.... I dont think its possible to gain any mileage with my car w/o an upgrades.

never understood the point of the huge tips on a diesel. the pipe being 3 or 4" and a 7 or 8" tip:wow: WTF?

i like this one....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sentra-Altima-02-03-04-05-06-TSUDO-SP2-EXHAUST-MUFFLER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a552Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem220272703236QQitemZ220272703236

i like the way that that tip looks on the civic.... I was guess that would be about a 3" tip which is why i posted that in the original post.....

I guess that looks ugly to everyone else? I mean ill agree on some cars that looks ridiculous, but not all.

Yea for me the tip should never exceed more than 1" in overall diameter when compared to the pipe and even then its pushing it depending on how it flares out. Putting a 4" exhaust on my truck would only be an overall increase of 0.5" in diameter compared to the factory piping and 5" is overkill for performance and EGT reduction but it sounds pretty sweet, specially when straight piped.

To the OP I wouldn't be looking for exhaust primarily for MPG increases, it will be a loosing battle. You main gain a bit but if your going to do exhaust be looking more for a change in sound/performance. You may gain a bit of top end breathing by going up in pipe size and reducing backpressure, however depending on how big you go or how much you reduce the backpressure you may loose bottom end power and getting off the line could be even harder.

I do totally commend you for not wanting a fart can though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I would say if your gonna do it a nice stainless 2.5" or so setup with a proper standard muffler would probably work, as well as a cold air intake. Air in and air out are good basic improvements for any motor, but all things need to be appropriate for the other mods or lack of mods to the engine.

thats a nice clean look. If I had one of those cars I would do something like that. As much as I dislike 4-bangers and lack of power, I dislike stock vehicles just as much lol.

Go with that muffler and maybe have a shop bend you up some new pipe if yours is rotting out or you can gain a bit of power. I'm thinking the sizing of the pipe might be more known on a forum specific to your car though.
