I always thought that exhaust systems cost a lot more than they actually do. I was talking with a buddy about his f150 he was getting a new exhaust system put on today. True dual exhaust Flowmaster super 40s for ~$350....

That made me really want to throw some pipes on my ride. I am way more interested in improving Mpg rather than anything else. I would like a nice 3" tip, maybe dual. I was just curious if anyone has exhaust on a 4 banger that isnt really RICED out. I dont want the tone to change too much in fear of sounding horrible b/c its a 4cyc.

Anyone know something about exhausts?

i dont know, it was a rough estimate. I didnt like go outside and see how it looked, i just imagined that 3" wasnt too big. If so i am sorry i will add smaller tips if that is ridiculously big.

lawl....putting a 3" tip on a small pipe will not increase mileage:laugh:
x2. Unless you increase the engine's hp and therefore increase the exhaust output. stock is about as good of gas mileage your gunna get. I would think headers and/or cold air would work better than exhaust. haha 3" tips would look very rice IMO

the point is, you have to do the entire pipe to change anything. a tip is for looks

You sir, are correct. I wasnt wanting to put just a single tip on my stock pipes dummy. I want and exhaust system... but i am obviously new to it and was curious if anyone has one. So i can actually figure out a good manufacture and other things like that.

I would go for the cold air to get more density

see man i was told that cold air intake will not do very much at all. I was told that exhaust would be the best bet for any type of mpg increase.

I have a borla catback system on my 2.2 with a 3" oval tip and I really like it. It sounds better than I expected and the noise level is decent (i.e.: It doesn't sound like the average rice burner, it has kind of a mellow tone).

edit:fyi it was a little closer to the $400-$500 range though

he will ask how it changed mileage:fyi:

I dont really know just going on what I have heard/read. Mufflers will do bassically nothing which is what flow super 40's are. You would need a full systems to do anything

full exhaust will be at least 500 unless you get it used
tucker has an 06' f150 and called aiken muffler while i was with him. They quoted him $340+tax for the true dual exhaust super 40s on his truck. That might have been minus headers..... not positive.
