Good Luck.

Make sure you have enough money to run the shop, product, employees, overhead for an entire year before you start.

Good thing to know about business investments...

nG

Taxes. Don't get me started.

Insurance

bills bills bills

And those pricks at the yellowpages
Those are actually problems that haunt every business

My dad's construction company gets plagued with all those things, I just paid the monthly and quarterly payroll tax returns for the company and the gen liability/workers comp bill today

oh man did I feel sick lol

edit: and dont even get my started on yellowpages and their scam artist ripoffs i.e. yellow pages direct, etc

I'll tell you this, I've been involved with a few car audio shops business wise in the past few years.

The biggest shop I've done anything with is Audio X in Florence Alabama owned by Steve Cook.

With the economy like it is....steve went from doing between 3500-4k a day gross to a little over 1k a day gross.

You can make decent money in spurts but I wouldn't put up the 50gs it would take to get a shop setup decently on a chance that it will take off.

If you have adv MECP best bet would be to get into a Tweeter or a Circuit City where you can make 20/30 dollars an hour guranteed and have benefits including retirement and 401k

And Ive been doin it outta my garage for the past 5 years.... ANd currently have a good job..
In todays world, that is exactly what you should keep doing. Honestly with the internet buying and the DIYers being abundent, it will be hard to start out. I feel you would be in the hole for a while and maybe down the road you would make some good money. It's just most people nowadays can do their own installs and don't want to get charged an arm and a leg for an install or be charged out the *** for a product. I mean, I understand why, but it is a dieing business IMO. I used to work for an audio shop years ago. My friend that owned it, closed and the reopened twice, but can't keep it alive in todays economy. He will be closing soon.

Tough market for shops right now if you aren't in a great spot!

My advice... set up near a military base //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Many brands (mine included) don't allow shops to sell online outside of their territory - you can use the web to advertise to your local customers, though!

My shop in Fayetteville, NC sells a TON of gear to military guys... this is why I make that suggestion. They are one of my highest volume local dealer in the USA.

Fort BRagg! WOOT WOOT i lived there for about 4 years.

Fayetteville then moved to hope mills.

I would love to move back there. havent seen NC in about 5-6 years now

Ya are circuit city's are goin down around here to best buy and Ultimate electronics...We dont have a tweeter! And ya I was planning on running some diff product than all the other shops. Street Beat runs - JL, Tma, Alpine and is WAY overpriced.

Advance Audio runs- Kicker, Memphis, Diamond, Alpine, Panasonic, Boston. And is going downhill quickly due to the lack of knowledge. Im saying if I opened up in derby I am in a great location and only 5 miles from MCconnel Air Force Base.

Well you see takn out $50g's to get started doesnt seem like the biggest thing becuz my other option is to attend Chiropractic College to finish my degree in that and then open my own chiro practice... which wouldnt be for another 3years and the loan for the school alone would be $150k+++ so thats why Im thinkn of just settln on my car audio obsession... whats your thoughts???

thanks for all the input's

I have my own small audio business in which Ill either buy equipment for the customer(along with designing their system) or take what they have and install it and/or build them an enclosure along with any other custom work...does that count? lol no actual store or anything though
