Anyone have any experience with hdc3 subs?

we had some bad luck with tearing the spider packs away from the cone.. we had one guy with 2 15s and a sundown 3000, and i borrowed a 10 ran a single sundown 1500 for two weeks and the same thing happened.. im pretty sure another one of our guys broke the spider pack on a 12 with 1500 as well... not sure but the fact they use like 8 really soft spider i think makes them weak over long play times..

what was it tuned too that seems to be the problem , they can take a ton of power as long as its tuned in the 40 range go under that and the spiders start braking theres 7 spiders 3 hard and 4 soft if i remember right

well either 7 or 8.. either way thats not a great idea.. the more spiders the more friction which will depleate the lifetime of the woofer.. the two 15s were tuned to 30 hz. but everything else was mid 40s.. im simply not impressed witht he ammount of mechanical noise and the construction of the spider packs.. my nightshades have 3 spiders and are twice as stiff as an HDC3...

didn't someone on here have 5k+ to his hdc 12? he was running a AB 500.1 to it at .5 or something
I have an Atomic 5K on my AQ HD310's!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I know it's not an HDC.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I disagree. I have 8 xtra stiffy's to help handle the power I'm giving my HD3's. I've never torn a spider and even after break in they are mad stiff. I have heard and seen some bad things about the spiders on the HDC's. Maybe that's why I haven't switched mine out. LOL:D

how does that make sense at all? wouldnt the sub have less excursion if tuned lower?

Lower Freq. = more excursion. If ya don't believe me get a test tone cd and see what I mean.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

A ported enclosure will have minimal excursion while playing tones near its tuning frequency. With my box tuned to 32HZ it barely moves while playing chopped and screwed songs but it is very loud. I would think that by this logic, tuning lower would be a safeguard against overexcursion. I am inclined to believe that the people tearing spiders are tuned higher and are playing below their enclosures tuning frequency causing over excursion and tearing spiders.

I hear what ur sayin but with the fs being higher than what the tuning is you run the risk of overthrowing your sub. I have no doubt that you can tune the HDC's lower but I believe that your stepping out of the mechanical limits of the sub. That's where I beieve people have been having issues. You can put retarded amounts of power to the AQ's but you still have to be smart about how much and for how long.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
