Anyone have any experience with Alpine?

i own 2 of these headunits.. both work great... if u get a good deal on a used one take it... they arent cheaply built headunits... sure warranties are always great

Alpines will & can break down,So it always best to get a warranty on any headunit.
Well I've had zero problems with my CDA-9887 knock on wood...OP if you're on somewhat of a budget, look into the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X693. All I hear are good things about it and it's MUCH cheaper than the Alpine HU's. I'm putting it in my explorer for my SPL build.

I have a 9886. Nice unit, but it sucks that it has no built in equalization to speak up. Bass and treble is all you get. Crossover is weak. If you need to equalize your sound, you'll have to get an additional "imprint" unit for like $150 or something. The 9855 had much better sound processing. My other complaint is that the iPod controls are really slow. Push next, it takes a bit to react (my eclipse is immediate). The 9886 does sound pretty good though without much equalization and is easy to use. Personally if I was doing it over with what I know now, I would go with a different head unit (probably a Clarion or Eclipse)

I went with the CDA-9885 in November 2007 for both of my vehicles because there were issues with the 9886 taking a while to access the ipod's content. I was told that issue was fixed in a later version of the 9886, but I never tried one to see.

I wanted that unit, it looks awesome but the problem I've heard with those is the ipod search and loading is very slow and a huge setback.

Do you not see the issue of the slow loading time?
x2

Im considering buying one this week used for cheap.. but if the ipod controls are as slow as everyone claims they are maybe not.

I use my ipod a whole lot and would be the main reason for upgrade from stock.

I don't remember for sure, but I beleive mine was a mid 08 production. Still slow.
