Any mini-truckers on here?

It varies GREATLY depending on how low you want the body, what type of bodydrop (traditional, stock floor, tunnel...), vehicle, size of wheels...
It's not something you either 'know' or 'don't know.'

Every truck is different, in this aspect. You do need a pretty good knowledge of the intricate details of certain systems, though. Last time I cut one up, we had to pie cut the hood for it to close, buy a MUCH smaller brake booster and remount it, hide the heat system up under the dash, change the mounting points and lengths on the pedals...

And put some bucket low back seats in.

Personally, I wouldn't bodydrop a truck unless I was going to the doors.

PS:

I'm looking into picking up this suburban.

My plans would be to lay doors. I got the jist of bodydropping a truck, but no actually experience on it. How hard would it be to do a 95 S10 with 20's, laying door/body

Again, it varies a lot. Not really something I could detail in a post without looking at the truck.

The motor, wheel width and offset, tire size and front setup all play major roles.

you wanna lay rocker or you wanna be doored? i think thats about 1.5" difference on our S10's.

with 20's, you should be okay upfront with a lot of tubbing into the firewall. depending on tire size, you'll probably have enough room before touching the hood underneath. you would probably have to run 225/30/20's.

there are bodydropped s10s on 22's, but again thats not doored. rocker should be fine. thats still veryy low. do you have a fleetside or stepside?

heres a bd'd s10 on 22's. lays fine, plenty of clearance up front too. hes on S10forum, they have a lot of good info over there too

You can lay body on 24's. I posted the blue one that lays, but it's a TON of work.

I personally think dime's look sick laying door on an 18/20 combo.

just thinking about that makes me cringe... the amount of work going into making that happen. plus with the newer tire sizes for the 24's i could see where that would help, i didnt think about that. my buddy has a 2/3 drop on his sonoma with 24's and its basically tucking rim in the back and most of the tire in the front lol

but yeah, that would be too big imo to be bd'd on 24's. 20/22 would be my choice, maybe even 22's all around

Used to have a 95 Ranger 4x2 regular cab long bend. 4 cyl, 5 speed. I was in college and had no money so I went in a couple random, ghetto directions with the mods but this is probably one of the two most popular trucks on the scene or was at one point, the other being the S10/Sonoma. It was a reliable truck for what it was worth, I don't think I had to do anything but oil, brakes and tires for over 100,000 miles.

Im now in a V8 Dakota 4x4/Quadcab. I don't know if everyone feels its classifiable as 'mini', and Im not much into the lowered/slammed look myself. But Ive seen a few of them in magazines, reg or extended cab versions. IF he wants to look for something not everyone else will have, get a 97-04 (Best looking iteration ever) V8 Dakota, 2wd, regular cab or extended cab, then start from there. With just a few slight mods and if he doesn't go insane with wheels he'd probably whip on the 4cylinder/24 inch wheel crowd every time they line up. That is if he cares about that at all. If he wants the utility he could go for a quad cab 2wd, those look REALLY good with body kits.

I have an '88 S-10 that I made a convertible and lowered 3/4 w/bilstiens and suspension technics sway bars. I took the engine out over 10 years ago and built it up to the max. Wasn't sure how good I did on my first engine so I threw it in an '89 that I lowered too. The engine loses oil pressure as the temp goes up. Could be the hi-flow oil pump I am thinking.

Regardless, my S-10 sits in my garage to this day. Haven't had the time to work on it. 164,00 miles purchased new. Engine is still in the '89 which has rusted apart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

A buddy of mine has the orginal '94 SS S10. Lowered 5/6. He shaved everything and put my 17" boyds on (17x8 front 17x9.5 rear). The thing looks mean. Will have to find pics of both.
