any deadening i can get at home depot or lowes?

wow, it sux that bad huh? is there anything else at home depot? some kinda tar? pavement tar maybe?
Yeah, I'm afraid that FatMat and Peel & Seal are indistinguishable from each other and both are really poor choices to put in a car. All you need is a small piece of each to see what they are.

Yet many of us have said it sticks just fine. Must be in the prep, or lack of...
I've always wiped down the surface to make sure it's dust/grease free, and warmed the peel & seal with a hair dryer for a few seconds. Especially since it was usually in the 40's when I was installing it.

NO chemical/asphalt smell and hanging on tight after 2 years, so not much more I could expect. Used to get it for under $10 a roll, so I put about 15 rolls in my car.
You do need to heat asphalt mats to get decent adhesion but doing that actually hastens their failure. Asphalt mats have rubber in them to increase heat tolerance. Age and exposure to heat causes the rubber to deteriorate and the heat tolerance to fall. Each year you have it in your vehicle, the more likely it is to fall off or melt. Three years seems to be the most common point of failure.

Doesn't matter anyway. Butyl is a much more effective deadener and will get the job done with fewer square feet. Buy $100 worth of a decent butyl product. It will be less work, more effective and risk free. Anybody who tells you to use asphalt because it cheaper per square foot is just pissing in your ear. Price per square foot means nothing.

Forgot to add - Protecto Wrap does sell a butyl adhesive/aluminum foil flashing tape that should be decent, just remember it is thinner and lighter than most sound deadening products so you may not save anything. It's also hard to find and only available in a few areas. Don't just buy Protecto Wrap and assume it is butyl and foil. They make all sorts of other products too - butyl with plastic, asphalt with foil, asphalt with plastic.

i used peel n seal on my car, and it worked just fine, havent had any spots come loose yet
The best you can say about these products is that if they don't fall off or melt, they are better than nothing. No way to look at it objectively and say it is good choice.

got it all done today. still working on putting everything back together. got a Q about USAmps remote gain knob though if you care to venture over to my other thread. ill post up how well this fatmat works in a little.

Well let me know how you like it, cause I have a 100sqft as well.

I am still debating rather I should hit up SS or Raamat for the trunk and doors. Myself, I am using the fatmat on the floors.

got it all done and everything back together. only listened to it very briefly though. im about to go to the gym, so ill listen to it plenty there and on the way back. ill post about it then.

honestly i couldnt see any deadening material making a big enough difference unless you completely coat your entire car in multiple layers of it and i just dont have the time or money for that. i think im going to be buying some spectrum and damplifier though from the SS rep and i will be using it this summer. ill likely be laying another coat in the trunk with just spectrum and/or spectrum sludge. damplifier is going on the doors and rear deck.

Yeah, I am thinking of going with either SS or Raamat, but not sure what to go with. I will be doing the floors in Fatmat and maybe the roof it it will hold up. Then hitting up the SS or Raamat in the doors, rear deck, trunk. Not big on the sludge myself and I am already looking at months to finish my ride due to my schedule.

Also how much coverage did you get witht the fatmat? And does yours smell at all?

well i used some on my blazer doors so im not sure how much i started with for my accord (maybe 80 sq. ft.?). but i did the entire trunk 1x over and have about 25 sq.ft left, maybe a little less.

no smell whatsoever either. when i did my blazer door it was summer and kinda hot, so i didnt even need a heat gun to get the fatmat on. it stuck with no problem and was holding on fine 3 years later when i sold it the truck. but now when i did my accord its like 40 degrees, so i used a heat gun and im 100% possitive that stuff aint comin off for a good couple years at least lol.
